"Usually choose large hotels when going away for short breaks. Chose a smaller property this time round and we were not disappointed. First time visitors to the IOM. A personal welcome from Matt on arrival who showed us round the building and all the amenities. Clean, light and airy room with a view of the chickens! The chickens can be fed and are very friendly. "Great view! Unfortunately the hotel is shabby at best and left us feeling conned, as the online description and suspiciously positive reviews paint a misleading picture. Peeling wallpaper and piles of bedding left in narrow hallways from one day to the next. No amenities other than a kettle and a TV - the cheap kettle had scalding steam coming out of the handle and the TV didn't work. No wifi. Grimy windows and flaking paint. "The breakfasts were amazing, a lot of choice, not just the usual standard british breakfast. The staff were very good. The owners was very helpful when we had a medical emergency. The hotel is well located with a short walk to Douglas beach and the shops within easy reach. The only drawback for us was the stairs. There were a lot of them up to our room and no lift, but apart from that we had a lovely stay."
