"The staff was a husband & wife ownership. They were very nice. The wife was helpful giving us recommendations on where to go. They were accommodating placing a bigger refrigerator in our room for all our perishables. The only drawbacks was the pool was out of commission on the hottest weekend of the summer, Due to the rain. The bathroom was big but only had 1 hook to hang a towel on. There was no storage to place clothes on while taking a shower or getting dressed only back of toilet or floor....

"We were disappointed that this "Inn" is really an older motel, run together with another older motel across the highway and a converted barn/restaurant. We should have read the descriptions and reviews more carefully. On return, after checking the listing, it was perfectly clear. Note: If you want an Inn experience, the converted barn seems to be the place to stay. On the positive, the room was quiet, the beds comfortable and everything was clear although very well worn. "Innkeeper is friendly and the place was fairly clean. Lovely to have coffee and complimentary breakfast on site. Rooms (especially the bathrooms and baseboard heaters) are somewhat dated and could use a refresh. Visited during a chilly time of the year and thermostat was tricky to operate. Heat was set not to go above 75 degrees, which was less than ideal."

"South Shire is a quaint Victorian Inn on Elm Street within walking distance to the center of Bennington, VT. The Inn has a family feel and elegance. We traveled as a couple. It was easy to get to sites and enjoy fine restaurants. The Inn is in keeping with the feel of strength of the Bennington community, as a place for artists, musicians, and people's expression generally to thrive. "We had no functioning wifi until the morning of check-out so we had no ability to use essentials communication tools given we were relying on it. I notified the front desk and they told us that it was down but didn't know how to fix it. I emailed Management several times and got absolutely no feedback. Also, it was a heat wave with 100F temperatures and the only ice machine was broken so we couldn't keep our food and drink cool on our travels."

"The property was a retro experience, which was okay. A few issues: 1. The electrical outlets didn't work well - we plugged a couple of devices overnight and they weren't charged at all by morning. The multi-plug extender provided connections that were too loose to work. 2. The sink was very small (about 8.5 x 11) with a cabinet overhang. "This was the second time I’ve stayed at this location, first time under New Englander Inn name. Both times I was impressed by how clean and organized the breakfast area was. A staff member was constantly in and out cleaning up and restocking the breakfast items."
