Elswick Park & Pool Looking up from the Westmorland Road end of the park towards the sports centre and swimming pool which re-opened on 1st October 2009 after a £1.1 million refurbishment. Elswick Park was opened to the public in 1881. Elswick Hall, built in 1803, had been abandoned due to rising costs and was eventually demolished about 1980, its site used for the Pool. http://www.twsitelines.info/Siteline.nsf/SMR/7C6776AF7F62C69F802576AF003E717C?opendocument
Cruddas Park The Cruddas Park flats are at last being renovated. It was either that or total demolition which was also on the agenda for a while. Wimpey's original 1960's style (a Swedish modular system) can be seen on the nearby block. The block in the distance, 'The Sycamores', is more or less finished (at least externally), while the block on the left, 'The Hawthorns', is being worked on now.

Lovely hotel, nice and clean. Night staff/man wasn’t very friendly at all but the day receptionist was lovely and helpful. It’s a shame the free parking is going to change soon to needing to pay but other than that grand little over night stop.

Reception staff quick & helpful. Room clean & spacious. Tea/Coffee/Kettle provided along with a microwave & fridge. Noisy music from NUFC bar opposite until early hours. Get a room at the back to avoid this. Good breakfast choice but pricey at £19.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Food in restaurant was really good. Room too warm for us personally even with window open. Bathroom fixtures (bath/shower fittings) could do with being updated/modernised. Overall pleasant stay.
