Lovely little stay at a traditional style hotel. The onsen was very relaxing, and the hotel was a short walk away from the Snow Monkey Park and bus stations needed to get to and from the area.
Amazing stay. Great food prepared by owners. The onsen is amazing and even famous locally which they can come use. The bus stop for ski park is 30 secs away. Old town is 10-15 mins walk away.
Great stay here and yummy breakfast and dinner. After snow monkey it was great to use their outdoor hot spring! The owner also provide drop off service to either take the bus or train back to nagano. We will come back for sure!
The owners are very attentive. It is located at just 10 minutes walk to the entrance of the snow monkey park. I highly recommend to plan and have dinner at he place. It is a great experience of different Japanese types of food.
A lovely cosey place to stay if you are visiting the Snow Monkey Park. We walked from the ryokan to the park, it took about 30 minutes to the gate and I am a slow walker. A nice town to wander around if you have the time.
The staff were super accommodating to my husbands shellfish allergy, switching a couple of dinner items for us. They were super friendly and helpful, just an overall great experience!
A lovely stay in a traditional Japanese property. The hosts were so welcoming and helpful. They helped us get to the Snow Monkey Park the next morning and gave us advice on onward travel. The onsen onsite was a peaceful and relaxing way to end the the night. We stayed with half board - the meals were delicious!!
Beautiful minshuku within walking distance to Shibu onsen Main Street. The staff are friendly and kind, welcoming us like family. Food was delicious and plentiful. The star of the stay was the absolutely amazing outdoor onsen! Would be better if the room has blackout curtains but that is a small quibble
Authentic minshuku experience. Traditional room with futons on floor, sliding doors and tatami mats. The hostess was very friendly and had basic English phrases written down to help communication. The food was incredible and plentiful. Wonderful outdoor onsen (mens and womens separately).
This ryokan was excellent. Best night sleep ever. The Onsen was great. We went later in the evening so had the onsen to ourselves. The host/owner was the sweetest lady. We ordered dinner a bit late but she accommodated us an. They offer a ride to the monkey park entrance. They have all the bus details posted in the entrance. Couldn’t ask for a better host.

Simple and autentic
Very nice small authentic ryokan with an outdoor public onsen. It's located 15 min walk from Shibu Onsen town, but close to the entrance to Monkey Park. There's a busstop right in front of the ryokan. The bus goes to the station and monkey park entrance and ski area. Very kind and serviceminded couple, who speak enough English to explain how it works. Good Japanese breakfast and dinner. Only coffee is in the vending machine outside. Only futons in the room. No chairs. No private bath or toilet in the rooms. The onsen is nice but simple. Credit cards are accepted. Good info about bus and train ate given.
Minshuku Miyama is a wonderfully cozy place!
The tatami rooms were bigger than most hotel rooms we stayed in and the futons were very comfortable.
The open air bath was lovely and spacious and the hint of sulfur smells ensured that the water is straight from the ground babyyy!!
The best parts of Miyama were the owners Eiko and Shigemi - they were welcoming from the start and prepared an amazing dinner of multiple Japanese dishes as well as a big delicious breakfast. Shigemi said the eggs are just eggs but I find that hard to believe because they tasted so good!
The trip ended with a free ride to the Snow Monkey Park.
This place was awesome!!! Thank you Eiko and Shigemi!
Minshuku Miyama is a medium walk from Shiba Onsen Main Street. you can get there from Nagano Station and catch the local line to Yudanaka and a short bus trip drops you right outside- mention the place and the driver will know where to stop. The husband and wife owners are friendly and kind, welcoming us like family. They do not speak English but you will have a great time. Trad breakfast is provided and you can eat in for the evening meal at and extra cost. The food was delicious and plentiful. There are male and female outdoor onsen (included). It is a 20-25 minute walk the the Snow Monkey Park that would be great to do in winter (bring shoes for shloshy pathways) We stayed in mid November 2023 - plenty of monkeys and a few bathing but to see this at its best winter would be the best time when there is plenty of snow. In and around Shiba Onsen can be pretty quite especially on the weekends. Well worth the trip.
Friendly people. Too bad extra charges were charged for using the Onsen. The onsen was nice though. Traditional stay, that was still comfortable.
Bus stop right at the hotel.
A very relaxing and peaceful place to stay. Best part is definitely the amazing onsen!! Natural water on stone, and they don’t care about tattoos. Loved it.
We got the optional dinner. It was really good and surprisingly low cost. About a 15 minute walk to some interesting shrines and the old downtown Shibu Onsen area with some really nice restaurants.
