DeSoto Beach Hotel

8/10 Good

"This hotel is older but the staff has done a good job of trying to keep it updated and in good repair. There were a few areas where grout needing replacing and corners were a bit rusty. The pool is very small but we spent most of our time on the beach. Loved the sitting area by the pool especially on rainy days. We stayed in the 2 BR, 1 BA family suite and it was perfect for 6 people. We were traveling with elderly people so this location was perfect and provided a nice ocean view. The continental breakfast was adequate. Island location was great. And it provided easy access onto the beach especially for people with mobility issues. The staff was very friendly. Beds were comfortable. I do think it was overpriced based on the age of the facility. But we had a great time and were paying for the memories being created."

"Stayed for about a week in a King Deluxe Room. Newly remodeled and very clean. Property itself is beautiful and well maintained. Pools are clean and the "adults" only pool is a great option if you don't want children screaming and running around you. Every morning attendants put out fresh towels and cleaned the chairs. Plenty of room also. Fresh cold water always available at the poolside. Typical bar and food at the poolside. Expensive but that's pretty typical. Beds were super comfy and my husband and I never had a bad night's sleep. There is valet parking but also free onsite parking available not too far away. The restaurants inside were nice. Nice breakfast buffet was average price. Property is gate entry only and about a 10-minute drive from a popular beach. The resort is apparently recently renovated- this shows but a few warnings about the new remodel. Lack of space for hanging clothes and bathroom storage, counter space is sorely lacking. Bathroom lighting is fairly good. We had a tub option in our room- shower water pressure was good and multiple shower head options existed. Staff here was beyond friendly and always helpful. Check in was quick and checkout was equally fast. Plenty of areas to sit outside and the patio area has comfy couches to relax and talk. Overall I would stay at Sonesta again. Walk directly to the beach and there is a shuttle available if you don't have a car to go downtown."

"Very nice room - had everything you would need (refrig; oven/stove; microwave; washer/dryer). Bed was very comfy! Pool area was very nice! We walked back and forth to the Coligny Beach daily (wasn't bad at all - maybe 10-15 minute walk). Very nice general location. The Bank restaurant across the street was a great place to eat. At check -in, the 'guest services' will try to hook you in to attend a 30 minute "presentation" for a vacation club.... Overall - we would go back and stay here again!"
