"The room was very hot. There was only a thick duvet on the bed, so if you’re like me (I need to be covered when I sleep) it was extremely uncomfortable. Also, no fans provided to cool down the room. A second issue were the toilets. In order to fully flush the toilet (which is required when travelling) you had to pull the handle past 45 degrees with quite a bit of pressure. "My stay at the Mercure suited me perfectly. I was close to the train station so I could easily walk up & travel to Glasgow, and also have a pleasant stroll along the promenade. The polite barman ensured I had a nice glass of wine to relax at the end of the day. The reception staff gave me a cheery welcome back wave me when I returned in the evening. "Room were clean, but the best times of this place already have passed. Service didn’t exist much. We arrived late and a document and keys were at the reception. We informed before that we arrive around 11 pm. Nobody was available at reception to welcome us and show our rooms. We spend about 1/2 hour to figure out were our rooms were, exploring the entire ground floor area and first floor. "Functional hotel with lovely lake views. Great for a night or 2 stay. Beds are comfortable, bathroom was functional, staff are excellent."

"The room was very small. We booked a "king" bed. Apparently the hotel does not have king beds."

"Good location near the motor way. Food is good near the stay as it is a welcome break but limited options. Room was good neat and tidy. But there is no water available. Tap water is not good for drinking lots of chlorine or other chemicals. Also the bath area was slippery so make sure the area is not wet before you stand for a shower. Overall I do recommend the place because of the convenience of location and beauty of the place nearby."

"Good value hotel in the centre of Cumnock. Room 5 was large with a sofa. Bed comfortable and fan in room which was needed whilst the UK was in the midst of a heatwave. Staff were very friendly especially in the restaurant. Small hotel parking area but on road and free parking nearby if full."

"I had a wonderful stay at Gretna Green Hotel. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect for exploring the local area. The breakfast was excellent, and the overall atmosphere was warm and relaxing. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Gretna Green and would happily stay here again."
