Banglamphu is a fascinating district situated immediately east of Bangkok’s historic Rattanakosin area. Most cater for both Thai and Western tastes. Street stalls are popular throughout Banglamphu, with many traditional noodle and rice dishes on offer, such as pad si ew and khao moo daeng. Fried insects and Thai dessert stalls also populate the streets here. The best places for a drink are the cafés along Khao San Road.

Market-style shopping is available throughout Banglamphu. The shops and stalls along Khao San and adjacent roads are the most popular shopping spots in the area. Tourists can find a huge range of items here, handicrafts, clothes and accessories.
