Really good place for a good typical Japanese stay with the outstanding mixed outside onsen bath, the traditional rooms, and the delicious buffet breakfast with a very large selection of really yummy Japanese food. Also conveniently located next to all the Sounkyo attractions, and a 7/11 if you want to eat your own food at the hotel snack are.
Hotel is due to shut for refurbishment in Sep2024 and it really needs it.
Outdoor Onsen was amazing and the location is excellent.
We enjoyed our stay here
The mixed gender outdoor hot spring with swim wear provided was excellent. Our room had a mini zen garden inside, and we fell asleep to the sound of the river behind the hotel. Breakfast and dinner buffets provided ample options, including a make your own hotpot for one. A great place to relax and spend the night after exploring Kurodake ropeway and the surrounding portion of Daisetsuzan National Park.
While the room decor was dated and in need of repair, the room was very spacious. The air conditioning was temperamental. The indoor and outdoor onsen were great. The buffet was plentiful.

Disliked: Room comfort
Cheap, cheerful but tired
A bit shabby around the edges and the futons are desperately thin, but a good location
Room spacious, buffet breakfast & dinner served with varieties, food so so. Bath suits provided if went mixed open air onsen.
Lay out of futons by ourselves. Front staff spoke English. It would be good to has a shelter at drop off point for raining days.

Hotel with Onsen facilities in a quiet town
Our family stayed over for a night at the hotel to visit Daisetsuzan. Hotel is very close to the cable car in small town of Sounkyo. We were there at off-season so it was quiet.
Hotel is bit old but its a nice experience to stay in traditional Japanese accommodation. Rooms and tatami mattress were fine and fits in 4 people (albeit bit tight). Onsen was a good experience to have thats built in the hotel that we all enjoyed. Other facilities appears old and breakfast was average.
The town was quiet due to off season with plenty shops closed. Can imagine this would be busy during peak period.
Great place to stay and very affordable vs the other options around the area… Their Onsen its very nice and also they have and Indoor normal and a mix one outdoor which is really nice with also cold water in few spots of the onsen
The gentleman at the front desk from Guatemala was very helpful. I loved the onsens here … especially the mixed outdoor one at night. It had a nice vibe. It was walkable to 7/11 and other places in town. Parking was tricky in the evening, but managed to figure it out. The room was fine but a bit dated.
Old school, old fashioned (read: dated decor, manual check-outs, actual keys for your room), traditional spa resort. The mixed onsen is great, lots of space and different temperatures so you can easily find your perfect spot. Definitely go half board as the evening buffet is excellent. Highly recommended.
The Japanese style room was so neat. The problem was the hotel is very old, the walls are stained and dirty. There was hair all over the tatami mats, not ours. The fridge had food in it from a past guest. It is an old facility that needs major renovation and more staff to clean it.
Everything is good. However, the is no restaurant open during lunch time winter around the area.

The onsens are great..
The buffet was expensive and a little funky. Needs more labor, lots of tables went un-bussed.
The carpets are old and a little smelly in the hotel.
But, overall a reasonable stay and a decent price.
There was not much to like about this hotel. Pillows were like sacks of hard beans, the outdoor onsen was dirty and the food was clearly the worst I have experienced in eight trips to Japan.
We were misled from the time we arrived, as we were told there were no restaurants in town. We later saw that was not the case. It was all a ruse to get you to buy dinner at their substandard restaurant.
The whole building looked run down and smelt stale. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Older property, good value but getting old. Not full and some areas not open, only one restaurant operating
Staircase makes it difficult to bring luggage and none staff offer to help us . There’s no direct lift access to our room.
Only thing good is there have outdoor mixed Onsen and swim suit provided by hotel
