"This is a great property that is located close to restaurants, Douro river boat rides, and wineries. All rooms have excellent views and the property has very nice amenities. There are also hiking trails close by that are safe. We would definitely stay here again. The only odd thing about the property is that the staff was not as friendly as every other hotel we stayed in during our two week vacation(there were seven). It was off-putting not to have them say hello when we entered the lobby...

"The hotel is very walkable to Regua which made eating at the local restaurants and participating in wine tours easy. The hotel has incredible views. There was limited warm water and our first floor rooms had a faint odour. The bed mattresses could be better."

"I've posted elsewhere that we stayed at wonderful hotels in Portugal. The "stories" were about reaching them and trying to park at them. The Douro Castelo experience was our worst! "We enjoyed our stay here, and they arranged a wonderful day of wine tasting and a cooking class for us. The things we did not like, though, were that the gym in the basement was very warm, and also the outdoor pool was not open, even though it was quite hot out. The breakfast was nice. There is not much to do in the immediate area, so you would want to have a car, or a driver arranged for your time there. We did not use any of the spa services. They have bikes to use, but we did not inquire...
