"Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Lunch and evening food was beautiful but not much of a choice on the evening menu for our liking. Breakfast was nice but expected a little more to warrant the price. Beautiful views from the hotel and plenty walks from the hotel as a starting point. Dog friendly too "

"Lovely staff, beautiful surroundies good place to access hikes or lovly small towns. Roads are narrow getting there but it is a gorgeous location. Excellent breakfast and pub food. We really enjoyed our stay."

"I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back! "

"Wow. Amazing to find a Hotel like that in the middle of nowhere. While the decor is dated, the staff and food were great. We didn’t see any squirrels- which was a bit disappointing. Great walks around the area."

"It’s the perfect stay to stop just off the M6 when driving from Scotland to England. It’s a beautifully decorated pub, with lovely staff and excellent breakfast and dinner. This time our ferry was cancelled from Mull and so we had to change the booking at the last moment. They were understanding and there was no problem rolling over the booking until we could get off the island. We will be forever loyal to this wonderful stop just south of Penrith. "

"This is a lovely hotel, well located for stunning views of the landscape. Our room was well decorated, and had a lovely bathroom with a walk in shower. The walls were pretty thin, we could hear people in the neighbouring rooms around us. The bed was really comfortable, excellent Wi-fi and a smart TV on the wall was perfect. We had an evening meal which was served in a cozy room with an open fire, I can still taste the lovely Borders Beef. Breakfast was similarly great, and meant that overall we...

"From the outside the Lakeland doesn’t look very inviting, net curtains looking drab and the white building aging. The staff were lovely and very helpful, got into the room and every step I took, there was some almighty creaking from the floor boards. Had a decent night sleep though! Breakfast was a little disappointing l, there was mouldy bread left out. I ordered a fry up which looked amazing when it came out, the only issue was the size, it would’ve been perfect for a child not for a 6 foot...
