Rex Hotel

8/10 Good

"The Rex is located in the very heart of District 1 in Saigon.. moments from the Walking Street and other iconic attractions such as the Post Office and Notre Dame. The style of the hotel is quite old school with dark woods and classic design. Bed firm and comfortable with a pillow menu. Ironing set delivered via concierge available by email at all times. We had a view of the central Square which had huge screens and a buzz of traffic and tourists. Highlights - the buffet breakfast is literally 10/10 and every day the menu differs slightly. We appreciated the friendly warm staff and expert chefs preparing international and Vietnamese classics. The two swimming pools were a welcome break from sightseeing and the fitness centre has all you need for a workout. I used the sauna too which was great. The lack of sockets is always a slight issue in older hotels but we managed to charge our phones by unplugging lamps or the kettle! A convenient lighting and clock control was beside the bed. Room was made up every morning by an exceptional team of cleaners. Our only issues were around quality of sleep- the streete noise wasn't the issue, some mornings there seemed to be a 7am conference below us which was a disruption for a couple having a relaxing holiday. The curtains were not blackout which meant we awoke with the sun at 6ish, fully glowing into the room. For a 5* I'd expect full blackout curtains and better soundproofing. Overall a great stay for four nights in October."

Hanoi Splendid Premium Hotel

"The staff were all great, easy excellent communication in English from Cindy with the booking, Bob at check in, Mr. Dong at the reception desk, and the entire restaurant team at breakfast. Breakfast daily was a lavish buffet that had you spoilt for choices - several options of fresh fruits, natural juices, local favorites, vegan and meat options, cheeses, eggs, an omelette station, croissants, even almonds and cashews They arranged transfers from the airport, Ninh Binh day tour and to our our next hotel in Halong Bay all at competitive prices, so it was very convenient 1-stop shop to enjoy Hanoi's Old Quarter and all it offers An excellent location with the lake, local shops and mall, spas, nightlife, restaurants, cafes and attractions all within a maximum 15 minutes walk. The king room with a terrace was exactly as advertised and we loved it! Large, clean, cool, with all amenities, and a very comfortable bed. Loved all our six nights here, highly recommended. Thanks again to Cindy and team and if we're ever back in Hanoi, will definitely stay here again."
