Miyama Ouan has a lovely staff and is a fine place to stay. We had a good experience here and the setting in the mountains is beautiful. The property is dated and needs renovation. We spent the same amount of money elsewhere in Japan at far nicer ryokans. They need to spend a couple million dollars to update the rooms and the common areas. We felt it was not the best value for the money. Also, they do not have any western breakfast options, which is a negative for the price. A Japanese breakfast is basically the same as a Japanese dinner and for Americans, two Japanese dinners every day is not always that appealing. We liked Miyama Ouan, but would look at other options for the amount we paid.

What an amazing stay! We loved every minute of our stay. The staff were amazing and so helpful and attentive. We loved the onsen and all the amenities that came with the hotel… free ice cream, ramen, mochi and saki were just some of the great things. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Thank you for an amazing magical stay in hirayu onsen, we will be back!

We had a really great stay, the location and the Onsen is the main attraction for this hotel. There are generally not that many options and variety with food both in the hotel and in the nearby by restaurants and cafes, but that’s understandable given that the location, nature and ski resorts are nearby instead.

Great Ryokan experience!

If you want to stay close to all the attractions the Kamikochi area has while also staying in a very comfortable hotel, this is the place for you. The kaiseki food at the hotel is superb, and the hot spring bath options are great, right in the middle of nature. I strongly recommend staying here for a relaxing vacation.

The location and venue was absolutely perfect. Only a short walk to the bus terminal, the hotel allowed me to park my car before checking in. Our room had its own onsen tub and it was so clean and up-to-date. The food was just okay… but I was happy overall with the service and everything else, that it did not matter.

Excellent stay. Everything stands out. Clean, safe, wonderful, amazing snowy night and day. Staying there for 2 nights was so dreamy. The onsen experience was unreal. Breakfast was filling with a great set offered. Staffs were helpful and patient. Language barrier was not a big issue. They sincerely try their very best to accomodate. If you want perfect english, best to visit an english-speaking country.

Wonderful first experience of a Ryokan

Genuine and 5* Ryokan experience. Food was excellent (although they did not check dietary preferences / needs and so I could not eat the set menu they provided). Beautiful setting in the mountains. Would have loved to stay longer.

Place was nice, we got a kind attention for our anniversary. The schedule there is very precise for the check in, food, etc… choice for the drink is very very limited compare to other hotel. Very hard to find hot water unless you pay to have access to the lounge.

Arrive early here so that you can enjoy their free offerings such as warm sake, cold beer and more! Their public bath has indoor, outdoor and sauna! We enjoyed bath a lot and foods! Their presentations were so stylish and amazing! We will be back again with other friends!

Everything was great, and the service was nice. However, the private hot spring couldn’t be reserved in advance, so we had to wait until checkout to see if it was available. Also, there was no shuttle bus, which isn’t convenient for someone traveling on foot, especially on a rainy day.
