The rickshaw as we know it was invented in Japan in the late 19th century during the modernizing Meiji Period. People power was seen as a cheap, convenient mode of city transport in those pre-taxi days. From Japan, they spread across Asia and all the way to Africa. Many countries eventually banned the use of rickshaws as inhumane.
If you’re a tourist in Asakusa district of Tokyo, chances are you’d be tempted to take the expensive rickshaw ride through the neighborhood. Do reconsider, and hop on the free Panda Bus instead. Yes, buses with panda heads in the front of them and panda ears sewn onto the seats’ headrests. Why, you ask? We honestly have no clue. But everybody loves pandas. For extra adorableness, every now and then the panda eye winks.

We found the deluxe family room for 5 to be a bit small, but well equipped and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful, 10 minutes walk to popular Ameyoko market, and 3 train stations within walking distance. Overall, a pleasant stay for us.
