Everything too notch from beginning to end. We had a beautiful room overlooking the river and the lights at night. Service was excellent. Their breakfast is a must! We would def stay again when in Shanghai
Amazing. True five star hotel. Fancy room, gorgeous view. The staff were warm and welcome. After we checked out, I was rolling my suitcase with my daughter walking towards the entrance, a staff member walked over and offered to help with the luggage. I was literally just two steps away from the entrance. And they don’t take any tips. Really fantastic service. The price was half of those of “five star hotels” in New York or Deer Valley, and the service was like 300% better.
Best location, food & pool/spa/steam room etc are excellent. Lot of small helpful freebies are also there that makes your stay great. Would definitely recommend.
Staff is very attentive & helpful
They also speak more English than other places too.
Above and beyond service from Steven Wang at the front desk
I had a pleasant stay at M.O. during the dragon boat festival, and I want to specifically call out Steven Wang at the front desk.
I ran into a frustrating issue trying to buy a WeChat e-gift card for a local friend. It turns out U.S. citizens can’t use WeChat Pay, so the purchase seemed impossible. Instead of just shrugging it off, Steven got creative and found a practical solution which allowed to present the e-gift card to my friend. Such a small thing, but it saved the day and showed real care and resourcefulness.
It’s easy to find polite staff, but it’s rare to find someone who’ll actually problem-solve for you like that. Steven turned what could’ve been a disappointing dead end into a great moment of hospitality. If you’re staying here, hope you get to interact with him — he’s a credit to the hotel.
Avoid the Mandarin Oriental Pudong at all costs.
This was honestly one of the worst luxury hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The room was dirty, multiple things were broken, and the overall cleanliness standards were completely unacceptable for a hotel that claims to be five-star luxury.
What made the experience even worse was the attitude of the staff. Whenever I raised complaints during my stay, nobody seemed to care. Front desk staff ignored concerns, the service staff were rude, and management showed absolutely no urgency in fixing anything. I made these complaints while I was physically staying in the hotel, yet nothing meaningful was done at the time.
Now, only after I’ve left China, they suddenly want to respond by offering me an “upgrade” if I fly all the way back to China and stay with them again. So their solution is for me to spend thousands of pounds on flights and another hotel stay just so they can put me back into the same hotel that ruined my experience in the first place. Offering an airport transfer and an upgraded room does not fix terrible customer service and unacceptable standards.
The management was pathetic, the handling of complaints was pathetic, and the cleaning standards were pathetic. I’ve stayed in top luxury hotels around the world, and this is easily the worst Mandarin Oriental experience I’ve ever had.
Do not waste your money staying here.
The staff at reception Nicole was there throughout our stay she kindly gave us a free early check and in and was so nice and patient with us. The room was wonderful the view was gorgeous - please please get the river side view it’s worth every penny. If I go again will stay here again!
The hotel and service is super , the food is prefect , only issue to be the transportation , it takes time to walk from subway station to the hotel , of course the suttle mini van is a good help . Overall we do enjoy so much , we are planning the next trip to live again . Thanks a million .
