Very exciting staying in a real old chateau, but with the facilities of a very thoughtful full restoration with modern comforts such as a/c, floor heating and huge and beautiful private bathrooms. The site is also very pretty, a large estate well landscaped. Last but not least, Jennifer was a great hostess.
Staying at a castle is an adventure in and of itself. The owners/our hosts Don and Jennifer, are a delightful young couple who have restored the castle and have been there the past 3 years. Very helpful with anything we needed. The breakfast was wonderful. The view was terrific and we had great fun enjoying a nighttime bonfire under a canopy of brilliant stars. We had a terrific dinner prepared by a French chef, Jean Claude and even went to the market in the morning with him and Don to pick out food after a discussion about what to have. We invited family and had an enchanted evening. The 110 acres of grounds included ponds, fields and forest with pathways for walking, reading, running and meditation. The swimming pool was lovely (a bit cold in March to swim), the tennis court looked inviting and I especially liked the hammock.
This is a truly magical and tranquil place complete with every imaginable luxury. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the rooms and bathrooms are large, even by American standards. I highly recommend staying at this chateau to anyone looking to experience Dordogne at its best.
