Stunning location, clean ,warm and simple room.Friendly staff happy to give advise on hikes. Would definitely return and recommend staying at Volcano Huts.
Camp kitchen is well equipped.
We loved our stay in a glamping tent here. It was the perfect chill out between hiking the laugavegur and fimmvorduhals trails. The little sauna is great after hiking, the staff were so helpful and the trails in the area are fantastic. Walk the orange trail, the glacier views are amazing!
Excellent stay at the volcano huts from beginning to end. Love the quiet, remote location. We had a glamping tent, which was set up wonderfully, with everything we could need. The beds were very comfortable, and the space heater, chairs and blankets were a great extra touch. It was so convenient to have the showers and washroom nearby, and we enjoyed dinner and the takeout lunch available. Perfect location for great hiking nearby. And loved the exciting bus ride to get there! Would definitely stay here again.
Everything was clean and good. Only down side was that the private room we booked did not keep the noise out of other rooms or the hallway. This is to be considered as you are paying 100$ for bus tickets on top of the stay to get there and back if you dont have a super jeep to get across the river. Views there are really good tho.

On plus side, Volcano Huts has beautiful and unique views of mountains/glaciers in Porsmork Valley, including through bedroom window. Guest kitchen also a nice amenity. On down side, two things. The “shared bathroom” did NOT include any showers. The showers are located a five minute walk away in a corrugated shed. Showers did NOT have reliable hot water on two separate occasions (two different times of day). Seems like you should have access to hot shower paying this much…. Second, hiking the red post trail (out to the point after the green post trail) became dangerous at the point of descent back into the valley. Wildflowers cover the trail down completely, it’s easy to lose it, not well signed at that point. They need to do more trail maintenance!!
Getting there. Be aware that you have the right vehicle and arrangements to get here. We had a AWD vehicle rented from the airport. The first river crossing was precarious. The road got even tougher and some rental cars are not allowed in those roads. The GPS gave 4 more river crossings and we decided it was safer to turn back. Never made it. I wish the accessibility issue was made more obvious.
Easiest way to get closer to the majestic nature of Iceland, without packing a tent, sleeping bags or pad. Sure it's glamping (if you don't opt for a tent they have cute little cabins too)... but hey, you're on vacation, right?
Great staff, great food, cold showers. :)
Glamping was amazing! Beautiful tent, super comfortable bed, and incredible scenery. *Be aware: you cannot drive to this property. You must take the bus. It’s an hour bus ride and they are only scheduled a few times a day*
Not accessible by car, very frustrated. Very disappointed

We booked this accommodation due to limited alternatives. It’s extremely expensive, even by Icelandic standards. The biggest surprise came via email after booking, advising us to take a bus. The listing mentioned a shuttle and that the place was only accessible by 4x4 or a scheduled bus with a surcharge—but it never stated the actual cost: €64 per person, one way.
For four people, that would have added €512 on top of the €360 already paid—completely out of proportion. Had this been clearly stated upfront, we wouldn’t have booked.
We ended up driving ourselves along a 25 km gravel road in a Dacia Duster, crossed five rivers, then called the hotel. Mikko—friendly and helpful—picked us up in a Defender to cross three more deep rivers, for which we paid an extra fee.
The location is stunning, but the accommodation is very basic. Dinner was OK. Breakfast was good.
I’m surprised more reviewers don’t mention this. Most guests seemed to arrive by bus—likely unaware of the full cost until after booking.

We stayed 3 nights at Volcano Huts in a "Shepard's cabin." The cabins are small, heated, and have a sink, kettle, hot plate, a few pots, and some plates and cups. You must provide your own linens (there is a fee/night for renting linens which is not reasonable for multiple nights -- we rented hiking poles, sleeping bags, and an extra blanket for a week from another vendor for what it would have cost to rent linen here). The cabins are not just rustic but also a bit over used/in need of repair. Our door did not seal, with a 5cm gap in the frame at the bottom which let in cold and flies (we stuffed it with socks). There was mold forming in the corners of the cabin. The mattresses on the beds were worn out maybe years ago and you could feel the framing under the mattress. These are possibly reasonable compromises for a location like this. Less understandable was the noise -- there are no quiet hours and people are out drinking and singing until quite late. Additionally, is not clear how knowledgeable the staff really are about the area. We happened to be there during three straight days of overhanging clouds. We asked repeatly for valley hikes. Only one staff ever really helped us with low-cloud hiking plans. Mostly, staff rec'd upper hikes with the vague idea that maybe the clouds would clear (vedur.is made it clear that was unlikely). Finally, Husadalur is not really in Thorsmork! You will spend 20m walking to Langidalur (or 30-40 to Basar) each time you set out

Great staff, very helpful and friendly and kind. Inspiring people. Food was excellent, always with vegetarian choice. There is no hotpot but a cute sauna.
This is a terrific stop in a beautiful area.
Staff was super informative. Provided crucial details for hike, including wind conditions and bridge location.
Rooms were clean and welcoming.
Food was delicious and plentiful.
Highly recommended.
Volcano huts is definitely a must do! My family and I wanted to experience hiking in Thorsmork and saw this as a great way to get easy access to amazing trails. We had a great experience staying in the huts. They are small, but perfect if you’re just looking for a place to sleep after a day of hiking. They can get incredibly warm, which was welcomed as we had two rainy, cold days hiking. We were able to fit five comfortably. The linens we were provided plus the cabin heater kept us plenty warm. The cabins also did come with a sink and some mugs: perfect for cleaning up a bit or having some tea in the evening. The staff was excellent: not only were they very accommodating, they were incredibly friendly and provided us with excellent advice on hikes to try and other things to do while in Iceland. We paid for the dinner and breakfast buffet, both of which were great. We had lamb for dinner, which I enjoyed even though I typically don’t like lamb. The breakfast was filling and perfect before hiking all day. The staff even allowed us a late checkout, which was great since we weren’t being picked up until 1730. We did need a driver with 4WD as the huts were only accessible by crossing several rivers and taking a road that is definitely not drivable by most. That said, the ride over was fairly easy and GORGEOUS. Honestly, I can’t say enough great things about the volcano huts. Definitely want to come back and stay longer!
Best Stay in Iceland. We stayed in the huts and they were absolutely amazing! Don’t be worried about being cold. With the heaters, the down comforters, and the fur throws, we were toasty warm and happy as can be. We even got to party one night with a large group of Icelandic sheep herders!!! (If you read this, was the one playing guitar single???).
Wow. Amazing.
