"I was really disappointed with my stay at this so-call 5 star all-inclusive resort. One of the main reasons I booked was the variety of dining options-they advertise five restaurants, but in reality, only one was open each day/night. That completely defeats the purpose of having multiple restaurants and made the experience feel very limited and repetitive,
The swim-up bar, which should have been a highlight, was practically unusable. There were so many bees swarming the area that it felt unsafe to even approach, let alone sit and enjoy a drink. It was frustrating because this is something that should be managed at a resort of this caliber.
On top of that, the customer service was extremely poor. Staff seemed uninterested, unhelpful, and at time outright dismissive.
Overall, this was far from the luxury experience I expected. Between the limited dining, unsafe pool conditions, and lackluster service, I will never return or recommend this resort to anyone looking for a true 5-star experience!"
Planet Hollywood Costa Rica by Royalton, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort
8/10 Good
"The breakfast menu was good. I liked that cooks were available at multiple stations to prepare omelettes, fresh juices, or desserts. There was enough food at the main breakfast area. I see less waste than at other resorts I've been to."
"Our departure time was before the breakfast service started, so we missed out on that. But they did offer a bag of snacks to get us going.
The room was immaculate, but compact. It was a little tight for my husband, daughter and I. But it was very well laid out and an efficient use of the space and furniture.
The shuttle service and proximity to the airport make this place make sense for a short term stay."
"Much to love, with some exceptions. The hotel and grounds are very beautiful and very well maintained, with gorgeous views of the ocean, surrounding mountains, and lush foliage. The room was lovely and very clean. One of the best aspects of this resort is the staff! They were consistently warm, friendly, and eager to accommodate any request! It's easy to feel very spoiled by their attentive and engaging presence! Thank you Monica for creating this culture among your wait staff!! You're wonderful! When the main buffet restaurant opens its doors for dinner, the staff are lined up on two sides and applaud the guests as they enter!! Loved it! The food in the main restaurant was extremely diverse, plentiful, and mostly delicious. We did not enjoy the one specialty restaurant we tried - Japanese. We had great massages, enjoyed some shopping, both in the hotel stores and the beach market. Would have enjoyed more entertainment options. There was a fantastic violinist and sax player though, which we enjoyed. While we loved the pools, the beach has dark sand and is not inviting. The waterpark is cute for kids, but limited for adults. We did one waterslide which was quite an unpleasant experience - very hot and claustrophobic inside. I would give this hotel a 4.5 rating if I could. We had a great time, despite the few exceptions mentioned."
"Our stay as very good. The staff was very friendly, and for the most part, very helpful. The bartenders were quick to serve you and most of the drinks were solid. There were a few instances where the servers didn't execute on requests--cooking the steak to customer preference, forgetting drink orders, delivering alcoholic beverages when virgin was requested. This last bit could just have been lost in translation.
Aside from the above, the buffet style restaurant served up tasty and healthy options, even if some items got repetitive.
The grounds are well kept and clean. No complaints there.
The room was fine. We reserved the master suite, not knowing that the kitchen would not be stocked with any utensils, pots, or pans. This is an all-inclusive, so not a huge deal, but it would be nice if we'd been able to prep some food ourselves as a change of pace for breakfast or lunch. The TVs were not very functional. The remotes didn't seem to work with the sets. Fortunately we brought our own firestick, remote, and VPN access so we could wind down with our own shows. The air conditioning worked as intended so the temperature always felt good inside.
If you're booking the suite for the benefit of the kitchen, consider booking one of the garden rooms instead. The suite wasn't worth the extra money for us.
Overall we would come back just for the friendly staff. They really made us feel welcome, and it felt bitter sweet when we had to go home <3 Pura vida"
"Amazing location and property, but room felt dirty and and smelled strongly of cleaning products which we could not get rid of. The outside and beachfront is beautiful. We felt safe at the property. "
