"I loved the short walk to the beach. The beach was beautiful and hardly anyone was on the beach. Also saw some monkeys in the trees out back of the property. The food was good, we only ate there twice. We had several drinks each night at the bar. Loved the location being so close to several sodas. Road to the lodge was rough but all the roads were pretty rough. Make sure if you book this through Expedia they have your flight landing in Liberia not San Jose, we lost two days due to SJO being our airport. It doesn't seem far away but with traffic the way back took us 7 hours. So grateful to the staff and owner of Gucamaya Lodge, you helped us so much and we enjoyed your company. Can't wait to return one day!"

"parking was easy. Staff was amazing, so friendly and they helped set up excursions with locals. The communication before hand was sketchy, but once I got there they made several calls to help set up excursions and they even told us about the turtles arriving at a nearby beach! We did not have water pressure for some reason on the last day so we couldn't take a shower. Two shower heads squirted water out over the top off the shower and one handle was coming off. We didn't really care, more of an FYI. The shower is out in the open, which we knew from the pictures, but just be aware. The staff doesn't arrive until 12;00 PM. So if you need something early you will have to just wait. the beach is just a staircase away, and amazing and quiet. Anything remotely not perfect was just part of the experience in my opinion and a matter of your perspective. Well worth the trip."

"Outstanding staff. Gave us great local recommendations and very attentive. Bungalows are clean, but simple. The property is outside the main tourist spots, but the beaches close by are even better."

"The rooms were very comfortable (best sleep we had on our trip to Costa Rica) and we loved the pool, the beach, the sunsets, and the star gazing at night. We were there with our family. It is a bit remote so good idea to bring games and snacks if traveling with kids. The restaurant on the premise is expensive but serves creative dishes by a Michelin star chef using local ingredients."
