"The hotel is quite dated in some communal areas, but generally clean. Stayed in a standard twin room (Room 216). The bathroom was far too small requiring you step to the side of the toilet to easily close the door. The shower has a high step up into it, which clearly is an ongoing issue as there is a sign warning guests to take extra care getting in and out. The buffet breakfast is everything you need, but the layout creates a problem in some places, especially where the tea and coffee machine is located, as this is the entrance to the food area and gets clogged in busy periods, so would benefit being moved elsewhere."

"The hotel’s location is great only a short walk into town there’s a small Tesco about 100mtrs away incase you forgot something there is a multi-storey car park close by, its an easy walk from the train station, opposite is Sparks great street food,in the street behind Sparks is a great Italian restaurant called Mazarno it’s really excellent Italian food but booking is essentially, breakfast at the hotel is included and there is a very good selection to chose from both hot and cold."

"Breakfast was good although you had to book a time for every morning ( We would have preferred to just turn up when we were ready. ) Bathroom musty as no window or working fan. Window in bedroom didn't shut properly. Very noisy, window rattled with buses going past. Good location, short walk from centre and everything we wanted to do."

"A very clean, well maintained hotel. The room was surprisingly large compared to other hotels I have stayed at in Europe. Everything in the room was spotless and very comfortable. It’s a great location and valet parking makes checking in very easy and convenient. I would recommend The Grand York and would stay again"

"Lovely hotel close enough to the centre of York for convenience but just enough out of the bizz. Mattress was very much on the firm side for me but that's just personal preference. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. View from the bar, over the river was lovely. Breakfast had a good range of food. No brown bread at all on our first morning. However there was a nice selection of breads the next two mornings. My only small issue is that I like poached eggs and, on asking, the chef wouldn't do them. That's the fist time I've been at a buffet style breakfast and been refused a poached egg on request. It didn't detract from the enjoymen of my visit."

"Lovely clean bedroom, bed was very comfortable. Staff lovely, breakfast was very good both mornings, nice hotel and location was fantastic only a two minute walk into the city up one road, couldn’t have been better. Unable to park at the hotel but parked for free down the road which was about a three minute walk which was absolutely fine. Would definitely use again and would recommend as the price was so much better than in the city itself."

"We come to york several times a year and this time was specifically for our 8 year wedding anniversary... Reception was clean and helpful. The suite, which we stayed in had a stained sofa, broken draws and unlockable bathroom door! AND you have to force the the main door to ensure it deadlocked!!!! (Room 401), no info on mini bar i had to go down just to get information. Room was far from "sound proof" we heard everything and that is people in other rooms, water running & people in the hallway ALL NIGHT LONG!. Soma treated me and my wife awful when we came up to have some drinks. The only saving grace was the downstairs restaurant, the young lad who served us yesterday (02/05/26) was amazing and very thoughtful. We would not choose to stay here again"
