Comfortable stay in rural location with beautiful views. Danny and Fran excellent hosts. Good breakfast. Ideal spot for us to stay for out Whanganui river trip in Pipiriki.
A beautiful setting with an amazing gracious host! We loved the setting, path along the river and attention to details. Danny is a wonderful host. I wish we could have stayed a third night.
The River Lodge is a beautiful property set in lovely grounds. We had a large beautiful room, very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and a balcony with a wonderful view of the mountain. We had fabulous breakfasts and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only downside is that it is quite remote - about a 10 minute drive into Ohakune.
We absolutely loved our stay at the river lodge. We came here to ski in Turoa but the weather is against us. Daniel’s warm brand new chalet with hot water jacuzzi and nice wine made our day in those raining days. Oh and my son loved Netflix too!
Highly recommend, it’s the best accommodation in the area, will not need to look else where if we come ski again in Whakapapa and Turoa.
The chalets are clean, comfortable and have a beautiful woodwork. Breakfast just great and our family felt welcome from the start to the end. Will surelly be back.
It was like…coming home.
Private.
Warm welcome,clean,friendly,calm and relaxing.
Different.
Comfortable room.Amazing view.
Tasty and easy going breakfast.
Helpful and useful (in details) instructions how/where to drive for a dinner/National park/other interesting places.
Unfortunately too short stay (2 nights)
We’ll come back.
Highly recommended.
Amazing place, great host, pet friendly too, although I would advise if you taking your dog and plan on hiking or playing in snow to do your research first. The whole nature reserve is DOC controlled and no dogs allowed. If no dog then no worry, you wont regret this beautiful accommodation.
We stayed in a self contained chalet and really enjoyed it, especially the wood fire which kept the chalet warm all night even though it was very cold outside.
Our host Daniel was superb! He found maps for the bike trails we wanted to do, gave us tips on great places to eat out (and discount vouchers). He provided a delicious rich continental breakfast both mornings and told us about a place we could visit on our way back to Wellington (Whitecliffs Boulders near Mangaweka). We did just that and it was well worth the walk.
Daniel made us feel extremely welcome and was very helpful throughout our stay. Make sure to get directions to the property from him, Google will lead you astray!
Daniel is very friendly and helpful and put on a delicious breakfast for us. He is very attentive and personable. We would love to come back! Me and the kids especially enjoyed the view from the room and the spa pool!
Maps didn’t get us there, but once we got there it was lovely. Daniel provides great local what to do advice and where to have dinner. His breakfast is terrific as well.
The river lodge was recommended to my family by a work colleague of many years. My colleague and his wife had stayed at the establishment some ten years ago and their recommendation was made confidently and without hesitation. We only stated for two nights allowing us access to the mountain and its many wintertime attractions. We would recommend however that the main entrance be signposted and have better lighting because we found it difficult to find during night time conditions. We found our host Daniel welcoming and a delight to talk to. Our best wishes from Upper Hutt.
Lovely hosts and breakfast with cabins set in scenic riverside property. Would have liked some screens on windows though as insects prevent fresh air. Relaxing and ability to self cater if you wish.
