"Unfortunately my stay the Cousin’s Country Inn did not meet my expectations. I knew it would be a simple, inexpensive hotel, so I feel I was expecting an appropriate level of accommodation for the price. However, upon first entering my room I noticed the carpet was not well vacuumed and the floor around the sink contained debris, including a Bobby pin. There were a couple of loose hairs in the shower as well. The sink and counter were not clean, with fresh soap residue still in the holder and white water spots on everything. There was also some standing water on the counter. I immediately called the front desk asking if they could send housekeeping. They half-heartedly apologized for the lack of cleanliness and said they’d try and track down maintenance. Sure enough a kind gentleman came by within minutes and vacuumed and wiped the counter (using a rag but no cleaning products). I expected a follow up from the front desk at the least, or perhaps the offer of a discount, a voucher, a meal, or really anything to smooth over the issue, but nothing was ever done. The hotel is somewhat inexpensive and simple so I know it’s not a Hilton, but at least the back building is old, not well kept, well cleaned, or comfortable. Some small and intentional service changes would go a long way. I do not recommend this hotel. I attend a large swim meet annually in the Dalles and won’t be returning to Cousin’s Country, and will tell the many families from our swim club to also avoid it."
