It was ok the front desk receptionist gave my family a hard time and had an attitude. We were all visiting for my grandmother funeral and she made it difficult while checking in

Pleasant
Was in town for a local gathering, and the Washington & Lee motel was a decent place to stay the night. I was cautiously optimistic when booking, and everything turned out fine. Owner was very kind, rooms are simple but clean, rates aren't overpriced, and a/c worked very well. Would have liked to watched some news in the morning, but the cable box wasn't working.
It was old but CLEAN! Came down for Colonial bikefest and it’s far enough to get a good ride in and out before getting to your destination. For the price you can’t beat it.
Good, solid choice for the price. The room was clean, it had all the basics including free wi-fi, everything worked and the bed was very comfortable. The only drawback is that it is a mile or two outside the town of Montross, so not really within walking distance.
The motel has reasonably priced rooms in an area where there are very few options. We stayed at this location because we were attending a wedding and the closest other place was more than 30 mins away. The pros of the the W&L motel are that it is clean and low cost & our AC worked well. The rooms are beyond dated and very gloomy. We had to laugh because it was like a bit like a scary movie. They were likely built in the 70s & have never been updated. They are paneled w/ dark brown paneling with minimal lighting. The bedding was clean albeit dark brown as well It is hard to see well at night. The shower was very slippery. Both my husband & I slipped, likely due to the type of cleanser used. No biggie, but it has glass shower doors, so be careful! The drive up access is nice, but it comes at a price. We had people who sat in the chairs in front of our window (rather than theirs...) talking loudly past 2am making it very difficult to sleep. The rest of their group picked up the conversation about 6:30am. The owners are trying to make this as good as the old place can be. I am sure it is hard to do updates, etc. and make a go of it. They do care for the property. The bottom line of this review is that the motel is a low cost place to get some sleep for an evening. I don't recommend it for longer stays. It is not ideal for families with young kids or seniors primarily because of the bathtub/shower. The surrounding town is really quaint and lovely.
Semi clean motel with lots of parking lot traffic.
Rash from chair, moldy luggage in closet, rug in closet wet, people hanging out all night. New mgmt non English speaking staff. Nice pond out front.

Rooms are comfortable for the price. Room a little stinky and heavily perfumed. Cheapest room in the area.

Good place to rest your head when on a budget
The motel is very dated, with dark wood paneling on the walls and ceiling making the room dark as well. It appears clean, however (bathroom, bedsheets). Check-in was easy as the people at the lobby were pleasant. The room was quiet. A good place to rest your head for the night when traveling on a budget.
Not the best place. It was the only motel in the area. I was so very uncomfortable, l slept on top of the bed. The staff was not very friendly. It was being the the bates motel, and had this weird smell. It also felt very unsafe. I would not stay at this facility again.

One Night Not Bad
For one night, it was OK. The room was clean, but dated (by about 50 years). Dark wood paneling, dark curttains, dark carpet, dark walls. You get the picture. It didn't smell, and like I said, was clean.
We were attending a wine festival at Stratford Hall and sought a place to stay nearby. The Washington and Lee was about our only option. However, it was a very comfortable, clean establishment with a nice flat screen TV, refrigerator and small microwave. The wood paneling on the walls and ceiling made it a bit dark and the lemon yellow and orange color scheme in the bathroom was a bit 1970s funky - but that just kind of added to its charm.

Time for an update
The room was acceptable, clean linen, towels etc but the carpeting appeared to need cleaning or replacement.
Needed a place to stay the night before my triathalon. Was impressed by the quaint, cleanliness of motel for a good price for 2 people. Would stay here again.
