"Location, safety, little gas fireplace in the room, and complimentary breakfast are great. There is no thermostat in the room.... it was a chilly spring stay, which was OK with me, but might not suit others. Sparse amenities, but coffee machine and fridge. Sweet old-fashioned motor inn, nicely kept. "

This hotel feels like a “training cruise”—you’re still on land, but completely immersed in the sound and presence of the ocean. Although the property sits along the main road and is conveniently close to top attractions like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the oceanfront side is an entirely different world. Step out back and you’re transported into a peaceful, almost surreal beachfront setting. Highlights include the magical and romantic Lantern Room restaurant on the fourth floor, complete with a cozy wood-burning fireplace, and the stunning glass-walled lobby with a massive fireplace overlooking the ocean. The modern bar and the unique self-service wine machine—where you can pour one or two glasses daily as part of the resort fee—add a fun and upscale touch. The nightly “marshmallow box” treat is a 10/10, especially thanks to the high-quality chocolate. Dining at the Lantern Room (breakfast and dinner at additional cost) is a must, especially for the breads and pastries sourced from a well-known local bakery in downtown Monterey. The beachfront rooms are worth it—especially on upper floors for safety and views. The experience strongly echoes a cruise vibe: endless ocean views, the soothing sound of waves, and a long stretch of beach perfect for walks. It’s easy to spend days without leaving the property, fully unplugging and and resetting mentally. Amenities are a solid 10 out of 10"
