"Nice hotel in a great location for exploring Edinburgh and the surrounding tourist areas. The rooms are a little dated and seem to vary depending on which one you get, but they were clean. We booked three rooms between us; two were absolutely fine, while the third had a mattress that had completely collapsed in one corner. When we raised this with reception, we were told the hotel was fully booked and there was nothing they could do although they did offer a couple of complimentary drinks as an apology. The restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming, and although the breakfast selection was fairly limited, what was available was good. The biggest downside was housekeeping. Cleaning staff were knocking on room doors before the hotel’s normal checkout time, which made it feel as though they were trying to get guests up and out as quickly as possible. We had specifically arranged a late checkout, yet they still knocked on our door. After we answered and made it clear we were still in the room, they then let themselves in anyway a short while later. We also heard the same thing happen to another room nearby. It was particularly frustrating considering we had agreed a late checkout with reception. There also seemed to be some inconsistency between reception staff. One receptionist refused a late checkout while another friendlier member of staff later agreed to it without any problem. Overall it’s a decent hotel in a very convenient location and we enjoyed our stay,"

"Good small hotel. Our family stayed here for the second time; the staff is friendly and attentive. The swimming pool is nice. Now it has a better breakfast and good coffee. The bed is the best size, and the bedding is great because there are 4 pillows. Thank you for a wonderful time. "

"Beautiful house and rooms. Loved the bar and library room. The grounds were lovely and nice to sit outside and have a cocktail. The only gripe was the rooms on the top floor with small windows could do with a fan in the room. It was a bit hot."

"A very stylish restaurant with rooms with a nice little bar to boot. We enjoyed our one night stay in one of the smaller rooms. The bed was fabulous. Quality linen and such a comfortable mattress. In fact everything was top quality and the room had all you could need, including a nip of whiskey each if you like it. We also appreciated the free water and the pay for mini bar but would have liked some sugar free drinks. Your traditional biscuits on the tea tray might also have been nice. My husband thoroughly enjoyed dinner but if you’re like me and have dietary restrictions, the menu’s very limited. The only main I could have was the veggie one - rattatouille that night - and I’m sorry, but I refuse to pay £24 for some veggies in a tomato sauce. I had to resort to having only a starter and dessert. The dessert, st clement crème brûlée was very good though."

"We stopped here for a night and found the staff very helpful. Room was very quiet. We had a lovely dinner and breakfast was excellent. Very friendly place to stay. Would definitely consider going back. Beautiful part of the country too. Great parking facilities."
