Hotel 77 is a brand-new, reasonably priced hotel that opened in August 2026. It is excellent in some ways, and needs improvement in others.
Excellent:
1. The staff. They was incredibly helpful and friendly. They answered many questions. When I lost the rubber tip of my cane and asked for some tape to cover the end, one of the staff bought a rubber tip for something slightly larger and made it fit perfectly and stay on by applying lots of black electrical tape.
2. The location: In Baixa, the flat downtown area. Close to the subway, many open-air restaurants, and many attractions, including the Plaza of Commerce, the Triumphal Arch, the Cathedral, a bank with an archeological museum in its basement. On #28 tram route.
3. Reasonable price.
Needs improvement:
1. The elevator: Not working for 3 of the 5 days I stayed. Hope it's now fixed long-term.
2. Noise proofing: There is some; however, not enough for me. My room was on the street and the tram woke me up when it started running at 6 a.m. There are nearby noisy outdoor musicians on Friday and Saturday nights, and I heard them too.
3. Internet: My phone's connection to the wifi dropped frequently, requiring me to log in repeatedly.
4. A/C controls: Weather was warm when I stayed. My room was too hot without the A/C, but too cold for me with the A/C set to its highest temperature.
I hope the hotel can work out some of the kinks, and have great future success.
