Lak Si Guide

About Lak Si

Lak Si is one of the 50 districts of Bangkok, resting in the city’s far north. It is found on the border of several highly-populated neighbourhoods, including Chatuchak and Don Muang. Inside this district is the massive Government Complex, not to mention several other government-related landmarks. Lak Si is not on either the BTS or MRT lines, so reaching here can be more challenging than getting to neighbouring districts.

Don’t Miss

Lak Si is not renowned as a tourist destination, but there are some landmarks worth exploring both in and around the district.

Wat Lak Si is the most visited temple in the area. It is the heart of Lak Si’s Buddhist faith, so it’s not surprising that this temple is beautifully maintained and very tranquil. It is a sacred building, so if tourists do visit, be sure to follow the respectful guidelines, and wear proper clothing.

Just next door to Lak Si is Bangkok’s most impressive market, Chatuchak Market. Visitors from all over Thailand come for this weekend market, as plenty of bargain hunting can be done here. Clothing, jewellery, accessories, and handicrafts are just some of the items that can be found here.

Not far from Chatuchak Market and the centre of Lak Si are several parks that shouldn’t be overlooked. The parks are great places to enjoy a jog, dine with friends for a picnic, or simply sit and people watch throughout an afternoon. Chatuchak Park is also next to Queen Sirikit Park, which is another great green space close to Lak Si.

Restaurants and Bars

Lak Si boasts some decent restaurants, although these are mostly local Thai establishments. Nonetheless, they are generally cheap. The best places to find Western dining is in the shopping malls, including Lak Si Plaza near Ramintra Road. Lak Si Junction is a small shopping arcade that features several restaurants that will satisfy the appetite. The nearest pubs and clubs worth visiting are located in the Chatuchak district, just a few kilometres away.

Shopping

There isn’t much in the way of shopping in Lak Si. There is an interesting IT arcade known as IT Square, and the compact Lak Si Junction provides visitors with ample services. Several Tesco Lotus stores are located along the main roads too.
