This place was awesome, excellent service, you feel the tradition in the place.
Breakfast was delicious, the tea ceremony was amazing.
The Onsen and the room were cozy and we left rested and renovated
Lovely one night at Ryokan Tori. It is located in a more residential area and the temples, shrines were within walking distance. Overall it was a relaxing experience included tea ceremony, private onsen and traditional Japanese breakfast.
My wife and I stayed one night here and were blown away by the kindness and friendliness of the staff.
The room was clean, and the mats we slept on were comfortable.
We are not tea drinkers, but the hostess was kind enough to perform the tea ceremony for us without having to drink any at the end. And after that our private hot bath was prepared for us, and made our skin feel so soft!
Wonderful experience, would highly recommend to anyone!
Stayed here on a Solo trip through Japan and it was the highlight of my trip. A taste of authentic, traditional Japan, with super welcoming hosts, delicious breakfasts, and a special and calming tea ceremony. The bath and the end of day was a great way to relax after!
The location is in a less touristy area but still easily accessible by bus from Kyoto station. The owner was able to recommend some local places and events to visit, and provided great insight into some of the traditions involved!
To top it all, they were able to have my luggage delivered to the train station the same day, so no need to worry about lugging them around :)
Would happily recommend this!
Our two-night stay at Ryokan Tori was the real highlight of our trip. It is located conveniently close to the Golden Temple and other historic sites. The area is pleasantly quiet, feels local, away from the crowds, and has great places to eat. The Ryokan is beautiful, lovingly furnished with antiques and with a beautiful courtyard with mossy stones, trees, and a fountain. At night we sat on our room’s covered balcony and just enjoyed the space — it was so peaceful. Most importantly, you won’t find any better hosts. Not only were we treated to a welcome tea and treat, a tea ceremony, and had daily baths prepared — we were also able to go to our hosts with any questions about the area, local restaurants, etc. They were always available and we were sad to leave so soon. We enjoyed the space, the excellent food (my ridiculous inability to eat fish was gracefully catered for), and the conversations with our hosts. We hope to return soon. If you are thinking of booking, you found a great place. 😌
Very refined and traditional inn, where the incredibly gracious host makes you feel straight at home. Breakfast is lovely, the whole hotel is spotless, and the onsen bath is a definite highlight. Very quiet neighbourhood, with all the major attractions a bus ride away. I hope to visit again soon.
