Brilliant historic building very unusual we had a rewrite the back with separate kitchen and bathroom separated by an open plan living space and bedroom really cool very unusual.
Ishiahara is now my new favorite place in the world. The Ryokan at first seems humble, but the design, layout, and hospitality of it made me feel as if I was staying at the most luxurious hotel in the world. I look forward to staying here again!
This boutique hotel is exquisite, quiet and beautifully designed with so much attention to detail, the perfect blend between traditional Japanese architecture and modern amenities. I highly recommend it, also due to it’s perfect location, especially for first time Kyoto visitors. The owners of this property were beyond welcoming and helpful.
The rooms were magnificent. Along with that the staff here was an absolute delight. Welcoming us when we returned and seeing us out the door just as if we were their children leaving for the day. A wonderful Japanese experience. 10 minute walk to tram station and multiple bus stops that will get you anywhere. 6 minute walk to a shopping street littered with people shops, and food alike.
Even if you can only afford to stay here for one night, do it. If I could use only one word to describe the experience it’s magical. The family that owns and runs the hotel are the kindest, sweetest people I have ever met. The entire family even walked me to the door when I left and stood outside, waving and making sure I was safe. They speak good enough English to have a conversation with them and answered all of the questions I had about the property and their family. The room itself was immaculate, breathtaking, and transported me to another world. I stayed there for two nights and the first day I didn’t even want to leave the room. The pictures do not do it justice. The entire experience left me feeling at peace, humbled, and not wanting to leave. I hope I can stay with them again next time in Kyoto. Thank you for everything.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and care. The hosts were incredibly attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely kind. Our room — or rather, our beautifully appointed townhome — exceeded all expectations. Immaculately clean, tastefully designed, and the perfect blend of traditional charm and modern luxury.
We loved it so much that we opted to stay in one evening just to soak it all in and enjoy a cozy night with takeout. And let’s talk about breakfast — hands down one of the best meals of our entire trip. Every detail was so intentional. Highly recommend this gem of a stay.
We stayed 2 nights in the Kuro room, and honestly our experience could not have been better! The room was one of the most beautiful, unique and spacious rooms I have ever stayed in and was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, the property meticulously maintained, and the level of service was beyond what I even imagined. The owners could not have been more welcoming, friendly, warm and accommodating. A wonderful experience!
Amazing stay at t Kyo no Yado Ishihara. Stayed a few nights in the Kura room which is a beautiful, freshly renovated two story villa that will not disappoint. They stock the fridge with local Kyoto beverages and provide some of the best sesame crackers you will ever have. Breakfast is said to be top notch, but unfortunately did not partake.
The three incredibly sweet inn keepers will take care of you, make sure you are greeted when arriving and leave with a friendly sayonara. Stay here if you’re looking for a great ryokan in a convenient location to food and shopping in Kyoto.
We had such a lovely stay. We loved the mix of old exposed wood work structure with new and modern interior design elements. The staff was so attentive, they made us feel right at home. The bed was warm and cozy with plush comforter and soft but supportive pillows. We slept like kings and queens. The breakfast time was of our choosing, and the traditional Japanese breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious. The food was delivered to the table before we arrived. They greeted us and left us to enjoy. Such an amazing place to stay for the night. We will definitely book again in the future!
