There's simply no reason to spend the money to stay here. There are many comparable hotels in Po'ipu or elsewhere on Kaua'i. It's the kind of place that's designed to extract every last dollar from you and provide only mediocrity in return. The coffee was particularly bad.
The place was also not that clean and in a state of disrepair. The hot tub frequently had a dirty film on the surface of the water or large clumps of hair. The steps down the the beach were broken, and instead of promptly fixing them, the hotel left rusty nails exposed and just placed a sign in front saying access to the beach was closed. For the exorbitant price compared to other hotels in the area, it's just not worth it.
The room was spacious and I particularly liked the shower, but there was little else of note.
Needless to say, I will never be staying here again, and I recommend you too find another place to stay
We really loved our stay here. Smaller resort but we liked how it was a bit smaller. Beautiful view of the ocean, AMAZING food. Loved the bar, restaurant and the spa. Would highly recommend.
This property was almost a dream. I stayed 6 days here. Everything from the pool, to the grounds and the rooms were immaculately kept clean and manicured. The staff is super attentive and helpful. I felt like royalty. The spa is amazing. Patti was my masseuse during my 90 minute Swedish massage. She is a gem and took extra special care of me since I had sunburn when I came in. I also did the dinner pa’ina when Red Salt hosted it. It was the best meal I had on the entire island. All of the ingredients in every dish were locally sourced. The chef came out and explained every dish. He mentioned a lot of the ingredients in the dishes were grown in his very own garden. I not only loved the food but also the company. I got a chance to meet and talk with other hotel guests at the dinner. It was very intimate and by the end of the dinner, I felt we had all became friends. I can’t rave more about a hotel on Kauai. Stay at Ko’a Kea. It’s more expensive than other hotels but it’s worth every penny.
The staff were very cheerful and helpful. They had great recommendations for activities and food. The room was clean and relaxing. The view of the ocean was great and we could watch surfers from our room.
We absolutely loved staying here for our babymoon. It was very quiet and peaceful for us, mostly adults, exactly what we were seeking for our last getaway before we welcome our baby to this world. If you don’t mind walking, which we don’t, it’s about a 15 minute walk to Poipu shopping center and 30 minutes to another shopping center where there were more restaurants and what not. Would need rental car or uber to get to old Kōloa. Good to know for other travelers is there is no direct beach access! Must go to adjacent public beach. This was fine for us. The only complaint we have would be the AC in our room wasn’t great, woke up most nights very hot. But, would still stay again. We look forward to coming back someday.
Really like our Deluxe Oceanfront room, we can step out from the Floor-to-ceiling window directly to the beach! It is just 10m from the ocean. Absolutely would consider come back.

Staff excellent, poke best ever location plus's. Negatives were
1 towl in bathroom when arrived, Worst Bed Ever in over 3000 hotels I finally complained the 3rd day when my back was going out and they replaced the mattress, extra charges galore. AIf this place was remodeled and cleaned up a few issues it I would recommend it but too many issues.
Completely enjoyed our stay at the Koa’Kea resort. The location is breathtaking, right on the beach. We loved the daily yoga classes to help kickstart our days.
We appreciate the smaller scale of the resort, it did not feel overwhelming like a big resort.
Thank to all the guests services staff for making our first time in Kauai, feel like a true relaxing vacation.
All great - EXCEPT - after 10 hours of traveling, To Ha, the woman behind the front desk, kept us waiting half an hour to check in - when there were zero people on line or in front of her. While we were directed by the bellman to take a seat, she was on the phone, typing on her computer, and smiling and talking to any guest that came by with a question. When she finally got to us, she made us go through another 30 minutes of intake, including a sales pitch for an upsell. We travel a lot, and we have never experienced anything like this before. Certainly the last thing you'd expect in a pricey luxury resort. There was no attempt to make it up to us, with the room upgrade we'd been expecting, since we travel so often and Expedia puts us in the VIP category, or even perhaps a round of drinks by the pool, or something to take the sting out of this awful check-in experience. The capper was when we checked out, we asked for a 1-hour late checkout, and she couldn't even muster that. Other than her, all of staff were WONDERFUL. It's a lovely place.
Hotel property is in impeccable condition, rooms are maintained squeaky clean, staff is very polite and friendly, and you are a few steps from your room to the beach no matter which room you are. The pool area is very nice and the pool bar staff is phenomenal: Jessa, Edward and Jude are rockstars!
Will definitely come back to this little slice of heaven in Kauai.
Clean rooms , helpful staff , sometimes too quiet by the pool ,

We recently spent 3 days at Ko’a Kea Resort in Kauai and was disappointed with the experience. The property looked much older and smaller than it appears online, and the “ocean view” room was quite far from the water. The pool area was very small, with not enough chairs for guests—we had to place towels on the ground to sit. Additionally, the pool bar was out of service one of the three days of our stay.
When I raised concerns about the room not matching the photos, no meaningful solution or compensation was offered.
I still had a wonderful trip overall, but the hotel was not a highlight. The one standout was the restaurant Red Salt, which was excellent.
This resort had a beautiful view and small enough where you don't feel surrounded by people. It was peaceful and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. We would definitely stay again if we come back to Kauai.
