Excellent stay here - staff were brilliant with their communication, telling us exactly how to check-in late. Comfortable room, and opened breakfast early for us (7:20am) as we had to leave for a trip. Incredibly accommodating and welcoming place.
Everything was perfect! Very quaint and comfortable and the location was perfect to be able to visit the canyon. We even arrived late and they were very understanding and accommodating with our check-in. The breakfast was wonderful with homemade bread and the restaurant is super cute.
The room was far from the parking lot and a bit small for four adults. The breakfast restaurant felt crowded compared to the number of guests. The staff was very friendly.
We had a great meal and a great stay here. The property is quiet with a nice stream running thru. Excellent meal at the restaurant, and the friendliest, kindest staff you could ever have. Thank you.
Friendly staff which seems to be a common trait for Iceland. Cabin was small but extremely clean and bright and comfortable. Same for the bathroom. Included breakfast was served in a very pretty small sunroom type restaurant. The breakfast was of high quality although it didn’t have as many choices as we saw other places. I don’t think there was any hot entree. Overall we were happy with our stay.
Cozy cabin that was very clean and beautiful property, too bad it rained the entire time of our visit. Had supper at the restaurant and it was excellent, also enjoyed the fresh baked bread for breakfast.
for a double bed and shared bathroom: smaller quarters but clean and bright. easy to find and beautiful location, with very friendly guesthouse staff. we didn't get to have dinner there, but the nearby kjarr is very pleasant, with nice waterfall views. for a continental breakfast at the guesthouse, the breakfast was quite good.
The cabins we’re comfortable and located on an idyllic setting. The dinner was phenomenal (we had the lamb). It was the best meal on our trip! The breakfast was included and was cold choices but delicious. Would highly recommend!
Stayed one night here and loved the vibe & feel of the cabins.
Staff were friendly & courteous.
To top it off, I got to witness the start of Iceland’s ‘réttir’, which was truly amazing.
The breakfast, however, was continental and basic compared to other hotels I stayed at during my 17-day trip to Iceland.
The property backs up to a butte with adorable sheep grazing and 2 minutes from a famous canyon. It is peaceful and beautiful. The staff are extremely friendly and the breakfast was perfect and light. A very pleasant experience 10/10 recommend.
This property is a little way off the Ring road, but very quiet. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was nice. They do serve dinner there, however we did not eat at the guesthouse.
We stayed in a triple. It was so cute and clean. Tiny bathroom. Slept well. Breakfast was lacking and not great but we loved our cabin! Great location after our glacier hike headed back towards Vik.
Room was very basic and a bit tired. The shower tray did not drain sufficiently quickly so there was a risk that it flooded. I reported it on leaving so hopefully it will be fixed for the next guests.
We ate dinner at the restaurant one night and it was very good indeed. It was such a shock how bad the breakfast was. (I don't really understand how a lot of people said that it was great). It doesn't take much effort to put butter or other spreads in a bowl or dish but they were served straight from the packet or jar. Surprised that there were no eggs (not even boiled eggs which would have been simple to prepare). And a limit of just one type of cheese and meat.
Hunkubakkar Guesthouse is an absolutely little place where you will find adorable cabins to stay in. They are located in a meadow with trees around it, a field of sheep nearby and the sound of a small river/creek. The staff are all so kind and polite.
I stayed in a triple room, which had three twin beds, a small bathroom and a table with chairs. The shower is quite small and someone slightly larger than me would have a very difficult time entering it. That being said, the rest of the cabin was super nice. There are a few outlets (three that I recall) in the main room.
Breakfast was nothing to write home about. There were cereals, milk, juice, coffee, some bread, yogurt and meat and cheese. Something a little more substantive would be a great addition.
I had dinner at the restaurant and it was quite good. I chose the three course meal with asparagus soup, lamb and apple cake. All were delicious!
Highly recommend this adorable cabin style stop!
We were disappointed to find that for almost twice the cost of our previous accommodation in Hofn the shared bathroom was small. One of our party of three could not fit in the shower cubicle. Room eas small but warm, comfortable and cosy. We HATE the late check in times in Iceland. 3pm or later. Had to ask for extra pillows. 3 yrips to reception in the rain. No roof on the entranceway of the cabin.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The property was in the middle of nowhere but still easy to find, especially in the dark. I switched to this place at the last minute and we were mostly glad we did. The staff was wonderful and the homemade bread and jam was fabulous. Our bathroom sink and tub were not draining very well so we had to be careful about that. The room walls are VERY thin so the noise from the other people were a bit disturbing. From the pictures we thought we would have a separate cabin but ours ending up having four rooms attached. The people next to us were very loud. The lamps above the beds were so low that we kept hitting our heads. There are no phones in the cabin either so we were able to call anyone for questions or help. We had a very hard time locking our door and couldn't ask anyone for help. The Wifi password was different on the key, compared to the instructions on the paperwork in the cabin.....it should have been capitalized. There is also no tv/radio or anything so if you like to fall asleep to white noise or tv, you will need to bring your own stuff. We stayed for two nights. Didn't have dinner there as we don't like lamb and the breakfast was small but it worked. The staff was super friendly and we loved that it was located up the street from the gorge. It was beautiful. Being on a sheep farm was pretty cool as well.
