Jin Mao Tower

Jin Mao Tower showing a skyscraper, modern architecture and a city
One of the tallest buildings in mainland China fuses elements of traditional Chinese culture with cutting-edge architectural technology and design.

The 88-story Jin Mao Tower was completed in 1999 and is said to be one of the world’s most technically advanced skyscrapers. It reaches almost 1,380 feet (420 metres) and covers a huge area of nearly 6 acres (2.5 hectares). For visitors, the tower offers a five-star hotel, numerous dining and entertainment options, and stunning views of Shanghai.

On street level, there is a dedicated entrance to reach the observation deck. You’ll first need to purchase a ticket at the basement level. Then, step inside one of the high-speed elevators, which will whisk you to the 88th floor in 45 seconds. Enjoy the panoramic view from the expansive observation deck, where you’ll be able to see the winding Huangpu River, The Bund and most of the city of Shanghai. Try to make your visit to the observation deck on a clear day for the best views. Seeing the city lights at night is also a treat from this height.

When you’ve finished marvelling at the outside views, ride the elevator down to the Grand Hyatt Shanghai to experience the tower’s incredible interior. The hotel is formed around a soaring barrel-vaulted atrium.

Closer to earth, there’s plenty to explore too. Catch some chamber music, jazz or modern drama in the 395-seat Jin Mao Concert Hall. In the attached annex building, you’ll find exhibition halls, banquet rooms and a recreation centre.

The Jin Mao Tower is located in the centre of the Lujiazui Finance and Trade District in Pudong. There are frequent bus and subway services to and from the area. Both services stop at Lujiazui Station, which is just a short walk from the tower. Nearby attractions include the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai Ocean Aquarium.

The tower is open daily from early morning until late evening.
