"Stayed in cabana suite, *note that they are on both 1st and second floors. 1st has day bed on balcony and a 4ft path to pool, and 2nd has small table and two chairs on balcony. We were assuming we would have pool access from the room but no. My main frustration was when a friend brought a nice bottle of wine and we called to have some wine glasses brought to the room at 2:30 pm, called again at 4:00, and again and 6:00pm, and finally again at 7:30pm when they finally brought them but the bottle was already gone after drinking from flimsy plastic cups since the friend did not have 6 hrs to wait for our toast. Each time housekeeping/front desk/room service said they were “bringing them immediately.” Having to improvise as there were ZERO cups or glasses or plates or dishes anywhere in the suite that happens to flaunt a full bar set up is wild. We assumed they had forgotten to set them up? But calling four times and waiting 5 hours for something so simple at $800/night is just not the standard I would expect. Outlets did not work in (gorgeous) bathroom so expect to dry hair in the aformentioned bar. Pool is 10/10. Staff at pool, temp of water, availability of towels and upkeep of area are excellent. Come for the pool, maybe don’t splurge on the room :/"

"We had a very nice stay at the El Royale Hotel. The room was very comfy and clean and thoughtfully decorated too, with a roomier refrigerator than your average hotel. The air conditioning worked great. All of the parking spaces are very close to the rooms. We were proactively given an easy to follow map that showed us how to walk to Universal Studios, which ended up saving us $40 per day in parking fees. Xavier was very kind, friendly, fun, and helpful. He helped us with parking, gave us water when we left, and made us feel welcome. Great hotel! We would definitely stay here again. (I should also note here that for families with very young little kids, or elderly family members, a night time half mile walk to Universal Studios might not be a great idea, because after all it is a big city along a busy street and all that goes along with that, even if it is in a nice part of Los Angeles. If you do not have little kids or elderly family members and you feel comfortable walking around a big city at night, it’s probably okay.)"
