We were very pleased by our stay at the Altstaft. It is a small boutique hotel that isn’t fancy but it is in great condition, super clean and in a great location near Bismarckplatz, transportation and the Main Street for shopping and dining. Walkable in 15 minutes to the funicular to get to Schloss Heidelberg. Would go back for sure.

If they change to new beds it OK

The location was very good on a quiet side street. The room was fairly spacious with a table and two chairs. To have a water and some coffee and tea would have been nice. The bed was overdue to be changed to a new one!

Hotels meet various needs for various travelers. If you want a small, inexpensive, comfortable and clean hotel in Heidelberg, Germany at an outstanding location near the historic center of the city, operated by a very small, hard-working honest staff, the Altstadt could be the place for you. Given these realities, the services available at upper-class chain hotels are not there. Nor is there parking on the property. But if you arrive by air and train, are self sufficient and patient, the Altstadt could be perfect. I would gladly stay there again.

My only struggle was showing up later than expected and not being able to contact the emergency number due to my phone, but I got it figured out and everyone was kind and approachable. I stayed in a single room, which worked for me, but I would definitely look at the larger rooms if I was with my wife and/or family.

The rooms have no way to be locked from the inside and you will only get one key for the room. Meaning there is no way a person can stay in the room and (safely - think of a fire or other emergency) lock the door while the other person is out with the key. This seems like a small thing but it is not and made me give the location one start only.

The check in process was terrible. We were not given a booking number from expedia only an itinerary number. So we could not get our key. We had to pay roaming charges and call expedia to get assitance because we could not contact anyone using the phone number provided by Altstadt because it is just an automated message that hangs up at the end. There is clearly a miscommunication between Altstadt and expedia because we were not given the correct information to properly check in and it was a poor experience for us.

Can't physically get into Hotel

We couldn't get into the hotel. We were later told this hotel has an entry code email sent to guest for entry. However this code is only on sent to those lucky enough to book on certain websites. Hotels.com is not one of them. So we showed up before the advertised check-in time to find no one at reception, a key box without a code, and a phone numer that goes straight to voicemail. Just before giving up and booking another hotel, by chance someone came by and let us in. This is not a position anyone should be put in. If there is any chance of this happing to your guest you should fix this right away. However, after going back through the reviews we found others with this issue back to 2017. We fail to believe that they are in unaware of this recurring problem. Low cost solutions that randomly leave paying customers on the street is unacceptable!

Ein nettes, kleines uriges Hotel. Das Zimmer war tipptopp sauber. Der Empfang sehr herzlich und zuvorkommend.Es ist halt ein altes Hotel mit eigenem Flair. Ein optimaler Standort um die Stadt zu erkunden und das öffentliche Parkhaus, sowie Busbahnhof in unmittelbarer Nähe. Empfehle es gerne weiter.

Der Charm des Altbau s, Denkmal geschützt, saubere, nett eingerichtete Zimmer, sehr gut gesichert. Von der Rezeption gab es immer gute Tips für Unternehmungen.Ein paar Minuten zu Bus und Bahn, als auch ein Parkhaus.

Gute Lage, aber einige Abstriche

Die Lage direkt zwischen Hauptstraße und Plöck ist natürlich toll. Alles sehr gut fußläufig zu erreichen. Aber: Das Hotel hat keinen Fahrstuhl, ist schon deutlich in die Jahre gekommen. Kein Frühstück und keine Parkmöglichkeiten.

Sehr gut gelegene Unterkunft. Alles wünschenswerte ist fußläufig uu erreichen. Sehr freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal. Zimmer für diese Preisklasse wirklich geräumig und nett eingerichtet. Alles sehr sauber. Zum Glück musste ich nur in die erste Etage, denn ges gibt keinen Aufzug. Dann hätte ich mir noch ein Schild "bitte nicht stören" gewünscht. Ansonsten durchaus empfehlenswert und ich würde jederzeit gerne wiederkommen.

Expedia hat es nicht geschafft die Buchung zu übermitteln, sodass das Hotel bereits ausgebucht war. Wir mussten in ein viel weiter entferntes und schlechter bewertetes Hotel einchecken. Bucht nicht mit Expedia!

Vanwege Corona moest er ingecheckt worden met een code bij een sleutelkluis. We hadden de code echter niet, bevestigingsnummer van de boeking werkte niet. Toen ik belde werden gelukkig wel goed geholpen, maar het was fijn geweest dit van tevoren te melden. Locatie is top, maar wel veel lawaai op straat. Dat is het risico van een hotel in het centrum
