"It had all the comforts of a home! Full kitchen, TV with plenty of channels to choose from; electric fireplace; very cozy. Quiet location, met friendly people at both local pubs. Landlord was easily available and helpful. Bedding was too warm for us. Would have liked a lighter comforter or blanket and a small bar of hand soap in the bathroom. "

"Lovely, well maintained Victorian building with staff who go the extra mile to be welcoming and helpful. Parking is available though limited. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with roomy en-suite baths. There is a lot of traffic on the nearby roads, so bring earplugs if you're sensitive to noise."

"We had a lovely stay. Our room was perfect for us….lovely comfy bed and a small courtyard where we had dinner delivered! We were lucky that the weather was very warm too. Our dogs were very happy and calm and safe there . I would happily recommend this room (2) for anyone travelling with dogs. Thank you Wynnstay and staff, you made our trip really comfortable."

"This is the best stay I have had away from home. The host was so welcoming, it was like visiting a close friend. Well taken care of. I was in Shrewbury for a Triathlon, and had to be taken to hospital. The host took in my bike from UK Triathlon who delivered it to help me. Breakfast was brililant. And the room was MASSIVE. More than just and B&B"

"We had a very warm welcome from the friendly staff and were shown to the room which was clean and bright. The food that evening was excellent, and as it was a warm evening we spent a pleasant time sitting outside with our drinks afterwards. Continental breakfast was served promptly at 8 am and the addition of fresh strawberries and blueberries was a definite plus! Check in / check out was swift and efficient. "Liked the garden, but it needs a little C&A... Disabled car parking near to our room (No.5) was an excellent bonus. Breakfast was excellent but a bit expensive. Staff were all very courtious and helpful. Direct booking rather than via an agency is preferred. We will certainly be recomending the Lion to our friends and relations and using you again next time we are in the area. "Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. Breakfast was very good and there is reasonably priced EV charging available. Be warned that the front door of the hotel is bolted closed at night, so if you're going to be late back let them know to be let in."

"Stayed here for a couple of nights in April 2026. Lovely large room in the Tower! Had both breakfast and dinner here each day. Food was excellent. Service slow the first evening fo dinner but fine the second evening. Historic hotel with amazing wood carvings. "
