This was a great hostal to stay in with our medium-sized dog as there was a large outdoor space on the upper terrace with a nice sitting area and lots of plants. The room itself was simple, clean, and comfortable. The shared bathroom was very basic, but fine for our needs. The shared kitchen was clean and well-stocked. The staff and other guests were friendly and we enjoyed our stay very much. Well-situated in the hip La Americana neighbourhood with lots of great restaurants, bars, and cafés within walking distance (De La O Cantina was one of our favourites). Enjoy!
My Russian girlfriend, her cat, and I arrived in GDL after living in San Felipe, Baja California for six months. In SFBC we were able to secure an apartment in two days, the first to search, the second to move in - probably as easy in GDL, right? Wrong. Took a week of hotel bouncing and we eventually ended up staying at this Casa Canario for four nights! It's a nice hostel with a fully equipped kitchen, pleasant sitting area next to the kitchen AND in the foyer, and the rooms are surprisingly cool despite the GDL heat. The location is PRIME and next to nearby parks, restaurants, downtown - you name it. The price isn't bad either given that you have access to a full kitchen and somewhere to relax other than sitting in your room. You can find cheaper place nearby (maybe $10 USD cheaper?) but they're big corporate-run entities with none of the "good" that this place puts out, and completely without the kitchen or other amenities. The hostess Mariana is pretty bilingual in Spanish and English and was able to help me communicate with the owner of the place in which I currently live. She was also knowledgeable about the area and able to direct me to points of interest and in general pleasant to talk with.
My girl and I had to wait until 430 pm for the house we're renting to open up and Mariana had no problem letting us chill in the foyer-sitting area until we left around 4pm.
The only two downsides were relatively minor and entirely incidental. The lower room we had initially sec

Camping out doors would have been better
I arrive at the owners lunchtime 12:31 and was asked to wait two hours until she finished her lunch, she was less than a block away at home.
Once she arrived, I was over charged, I was assured a refund and it never happened. Hotels.com is still working on the overcharges.
The owner tries to claim it's the diffence in the exchange rate. The confirm price was set by the reservation through hotels.com not the exchange rate.
The owner was slow to respond to issues concerning usably toliets. I had to walk a quarter of a mile to find a toliet because the owner had "other stuff" to do.
I had to negotiate the cleaning of the room and fresh towels. Property policy 2 guest 8 day stay, room will be cleaned once and each guest will be provided 1 towels for the entire stay. No heaters or air conditioning.
All rooms face a court yard that when Individuals smoke your room contains the smell of smoke for hoyrs. All doors to rooms are glass therefore, every sound and conversation in the court yard vibrates into your room at all hours of the day and night. Several rooms share a wall with the bathrooms, need I say more.
The pictures on the site are accurate however the management and the integrity of the ownship is an issue. I would never stay there again not would I recommend this property to my ennmies.
Avoid this place, now I realized that there are many other professionally run facities within 1 to 3 blocks of this property.

It was a cute place, but I found a few things disappointing about my stay and the service I received.. In many of the places I've stayed, there are rules stating that the kitchen can only be used during certain hours, however, that wasn't the case here. Twice I was woken up by someone using the microwave at 6:30am in the morning. The bedroom I stayed in was beside the bathroom. Because there are glass bricks on the shared wall, light streams in when someone is using the washroom. This is particularly bothersome during the nighttime and woke me up late at night. I raised these issues with the host, but she was dismissive and didn't do anything to resolve them (ie. moving me to another bedroom when I requested it). Besides that, the host wasn't really around. When I arrived, I was greeted by the person who does the cleaning.

Place is nice and clean, although administrator was not in place , Raquel did assist us with great attitude. Very central site to most of our visits. Very recommended
