Frankfurt’s green belt and tranquil residential zone encompass the financial centre and the iconic twin towers that rise a little south of the university.

Split into a northern and southern quarter, the Westend area is an affluent residential zone just outside the city center. As you amble along the pleasant lanes, you’ll spot the large and impressive houses of some of the city’s wealthiest citizens. Visit the Westend to relax in various parks and plazas, enjoying the district’s serenity and enchanting scenery.

Study the collection of plants on display in the Frankfurt Botanical Garden. It is known for the exceptional architecture of the greenhouse, which contains a vast tropical section. Continue to explore the greenery of the region at the Nebbiensches Gartenhaus, where fountains and floral displays adorn the pavilion.

A little farther south lies the tropical realm and aquarium of the Palm Garden. Stroll around the scenic Bootsweiher lake to see a show or recital at the Papageno Musiktheater am Palmengarten. Bring your family to see the colorful displays showcasing scenes from a 19th-century children’s book at the Struwwelpeter Museum.

Marking the eastern side of the Westend region is the spacious Rothschildpark, which provides some of the best views of the Deutsche Bank Twin Towers. Admire the carved glass making up these iconic skyscrapers that are joined at the base by a wide podium. Consider the financial importance of this Deutsche Bank headquarters, often used as the background image for financial news reports.

In the northern part of the quarter stands the Goethe University Frankfurt. Chat with students as you make your way through the campus. Marvel at the size of the enormous IG Farben Building Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. It has an intriguing history and working paternoster elevators that travel up and down in a continuous loop.

The Westend skirts the western border of the central Innenstadt district. Travel here by U-Bahn to the Alte Oper station then head west to explore the neighborhood.
