"Useful location. Spacious room. Allowed me early check in for which I was grateful. Bed comfy and shower excellent. Room was near entrance and on ground floor so had to keep curtain shut for privacy. Blind would have been useful. Breakfast was not great but this was an exception as chef was not available."

The longest, twistiest single lane country road with flocks of bantams took 15 minutes to reach the lodge from theain A road. Crazy! Fortunately, no one came the other direction so only the wildlife provided the hazards. The lodge is a converted barn/stables/something old and quirky. It has wifi and very polite staff. "Our fourth stay at the Metropole in recent years.A privilege to stay in such a unique historic building,with yes a little patina around the edges.If you dont embrace the nostalgia then budget chain's are available.The staff here are so good,as is the breakfast and the pool and spa facility.A great location for roadtrips around mid Wales,and a huge car park."

"Room not properly stocked with tea bags etc Dust on stand and skirting boards. Door would not open fully as got stuck on the floor. Two single beds but not a lot of room to manoeuvre around banged legs on it. kitchen at breakfast - there was no butter 2nd morning and lack of mugs. There were coffee perculators but no coffee to brew only small instant for cups. Food in restaurant- ceasar salad was a big disappointment, chicken overcooked and salad not right leaves for ceasar salad. However staff...

"We were handsomely welcomed and looked after. The room was superb, very generously sized with an excellent bathroom. The balcony overlooking the meadows bordering the river Wye was a delight, especially as we arrived at tea time with the sun shining on the house. Very relaxing after a longish car journey. I enjoyed my classic cooked breakfast and my wife enjoyed an avacado-based poached egg. We hope to return during 2027's Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival."

"An unpretentious but very welcoming and pleasant stay with comfortable bed, hot showers and good storage space. The standout feature was the food: the cooked breakfast was excellent and the meals in the restaurant even better. Do try the homemade Suet Steak and Kidney pudding!!"
