"The Royal Oak has a wonderful location in a quiet village setting and visitors can expect a relaxing change of pace. The countryside around is spectacular for England and the people are without exception friendly and helpful. I'm perhaps biased because my family lived in Gt Ayton in the early 19th Century and although I was born in North Yorkshire today, as a visiting southerner it's very much my home ground. "Amazingly friendly welcome. Heading up to the room through a fog of cigarette smoke did not bode well, but, happily, the room was immaculate.
Service was second to none. Free parking in market square roght outside the hotel was a great bonus.
Will definitely return to The Leven. "
"Lovely hotel though a bit like a rabbit warren inside but a
great mix of old and new.
The best part is the staff - they are just SO friendly, helpful but very professional.
On our first evening, as we sat in the lounge, we were approached by an elderly gentleman who enquired how long we were staying and where we had come from etc.
We asked him how long had he been staying there and as he walked off he replied "98 years".
It turned out he was 98 year old Lord Gisborough!
