10/10 Excellent

"We had a one night stop here in October. The room had been redecorated reasonably recently, the bathroom also looked very modern, all very clean. A new mattress wouldn't go amiss though. The staff were very friendly and helpful, for our evening meal we had a pizza, which was ok, it was tasty and very filling. We didn't have breakfast so cant comment. The absolute best thing about this hotel is sitting outside the front having a drink and admiring a stunning view! That alone would bring us back. We will definitely return sometime, recommended."

"Arrived at the witching post and was greeted at the bar and shown to the room. The pub was lovely with an open fire going. The evening meal and breakfast was great and the pub is an excellent base location for lovely walks and short distance from the coast. With regards the room, I think we were close to the flue from the open fire and the room had the fire smell. The cold water tap on the bath didn’t release any water but we got round that by topping up the bath with cold water from the shower. I think the pub could easily charge a lot more for the rooms but they need a good clean and decorating (too many dusty areas and mould around the bath sealant unfortunately. For our 2 night stay, the pub was really used as a base for sleeping and eating as we were out all day, it certainly served its purpose. Needs some work to take it to another level but we really enjoyed our stay and the staff are very friendly and helpful"

"Lovely property in the National Park, remote enough for complete peace & quiet but also a short walk away from a village with plenty of amenities. The cottage has everything you could possibly need for a week or two away, including some generous provisions on your arrival! Everything’s been thought of including tea towels, crockery, cups/glasses, cutlery, kitchen utensils and pots/pans etc - even a butter dish! Lovely crisp bedlinen. Plenty of storage in each bedroom and a handy boot/bag/coat area on entry so you can close the door on all things outside and snuggle in for the evening. We enjoyed looking out at dusk and watching the animals (cows/ducks/bats/rabbits) and even heard an owl hoot a few times. Lovely sunsets visible from the back of the cottage. Well-placed for visiting plenty of local places of interest, and there are a couple of pubs serving great food 5 mins or so away. The owner is lovely, contactable anytime, and has heaps of knowledge both of the local area and local walk/hike routes. Will stay again when visiting Yorkshire. PS - the guestbook is fantastic, very comprehensive including instructions for appliances - as I said, they really have thought of everything!"

"Well we were welcomed by Selma, who was a very pleasant, friendly and efficient host. The room was very comfortable and well equipped….even a little bottle of fresh milk for our tea and coffee, plus a few cookies for us. There was also water available in small bottles in the fridge. The breakfasts were excellent, fresh fruit and squeezed orange juice! A great selection every day!! The little village had a co-op fully stocked, art store and more across from the station. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to take the train into Whitby……We’ll be back some day…..😊"

"One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. It was our first child free few days away for a few years. Debbie checked us in and was fantastic and gave us some great pointers of where to eat out on our first night. We chose the Ellerby Country Inn( was fantastic). The room was immaculate and the bed was so comfy. The staff were all friendly and if you passed by them, they would ask if we needed anything or had a nice day. The featured rooms were brilliant. We stayed in Venice, with a bed shaped like a boat and a huge spa bath. Everything was spot on and more! Breakfast was included, with lots to choose from. We would definitely stay here again. Keep being amazing St.Hilda's Boutique."
