Depending on where you're coming from, your flight to Amman could be a piece of cake or it could drag on forever. We've pulled together some useful hints that will help you start your next unforgettable escape on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a stress-free experience if you bring the right gear. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a clean set of clothes and a good read. Next, leave space in your hand luggage for your electronic devices, chargers, medications and maybe a cosy neck pillow too. Lastly, remember to take your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked baggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. Sharp objects, like your trusty pocket knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and poisons, are also restricted.

• Your electronic devices like laptops and phones will also have to go through the machine for inspection. Don't worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
• Remember to remove liquids and gels from your hand luggage. They usually need to be sent through the X-ray separately. Each item should be no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit in a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.
• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you valuable minutes. Hiking or heavy-style boots are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Slip-on sneakers are usually not.
• Airlines won't allow any sharp items or pocket knives in your carry-on baggage. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them in your checked baggage.
