Laborie visit

Visiting family in Paarl. This was a wonderful place to stay! Enjoyed meals at the Stoep and Suzanne’s. Staff was excellent. Beautiful room and surroundings.

Great stay at Laborie, highly recommended

We really enjoyed our stay at Laborie Estate. The estate is beautiful, wonderful views, great breakfast and a cozy apartment. Everyday fresh water in the fridge, coffee in the room, everyone was very friendly. Only comment I have is that it felt a bit anonymous and communication wasn‘t too great. We arrived late due to a delay in our flight, and we were just left with a message that due to problems with the credit card they were to cancel our room if we don’t show up till 5pm. At that time, it was already past 5, which - obviously - made us very nervous. No one was reachable by phone, so we just drove there, hoping to get into our room despite this message. And in fact we did, the key was located with Security. In the end the credit card issue was resolved the next morning. Apart from that, what I would have appreciated is a little note before check in, that we have to expect a certain noise level. There was quite some construction activity going on on the estate which lead to a non negligible noise level.

The cottage smelt of old vomit. The windows were rattling in the wind, the rooms were sorely in need of a hygienic clean up to clear the dust and dirt on the shelves, the floors. Some furniture was broken. Before and during arrival, I was repeatedly told that the payment was outstanding, even though I supplied proof of payment. A huge pity, we'd been led to believe it was outstanding. The external surrounds were most amazing. But we were not staying outdoors. Giovanni's restaurant was just as disappointing. Slow service, sloppy food, almost no service.

Restaurant close early without communication!

The stay was OK. The restaurant on site, “Suzannes”, where we had dinner, made a terrible mistake! After sitting in the restaurant from 19:00, having being told by reception it is open until 22:00; we gave our order at 20:00. The waitress came back and informed us the kitchen is closed. She said the chef closed it, and is doing stock-take, and they cannot help us in any way! We spoke to the manager who was quite arrogant and he confirmed the same. We had to leave! The problem is not the early closure, the problem is that no one told us in advance that the kitchen will close and that we must order before a certain time! This spoiled the Laborie experience completely! Very unhappy! And no solutions or consolation was offered. We were basically told we can leave.
