"The hotel really caters for big events etc. and was almost empty when I stayed. I only met the receptionist who was efficient, friendly and helpful. The hotel is very large and set in its own grounds and gardens. For my stay it was very quiet - I can't comment on when it is full and busy. However, my stay was during the latest heatwave and my bedroom was without air conditioning and uncomfortably hot. "The Bell Inn was gorgeous it would have received a 5 star rating if it wasn’t for the staffing issues. Housekeeping had failed to turn up that day and they hadn’t realised until nearly checking time so we never got into our room until 5.45. The staff dealt with this delay professionally and we were served with complimentary drinks. This caused us a bit of an issue as we had to leave at 6.15 for a meal elsewhere. Would definitely stay here again if in this area."

"Das Hotel liegt mitten im Grünen und bei der Anfahrt über das Grundstück freut man sich schon auf die typisch britische, alte Hausanlage. Im Inneren des Hotels geht der äußere Flair leider etwas verloren, eher so 80er Jahre Style. Wir hatten jeder die preiswerteste Zimmer Kategorie gewählt, gute Matratzen, das Fenster ließ sich öffnen und super war auch das warme und sehr saubere Bad. "

"The Royal Oak is outstanding in every respect. If you're staying a night, its facilities are unusually generous and extensive; if you're eating, the menu and the food are great; and if you just want a drink, there's a bar area and plenty of seating outside. The staff are lovely. Plus there's plenty of local information, books, games and events, not to mention a farm shop. If you can tear yourself away, visit Wayland's Smithy a couple of miles away along the Ridgeway."

"This is a hidden gem. It's a charming old manor house with very comfortable rooms and lovely food. The staff can't do enough for you and are extremely helpful. It's set in its own grounds, completely hidden from the road with no noise apart from birdsong and the whispering of the trees."
