This is a beautiful hotel, set in a tranquil garden, with a lovely view. The staff members were helpful and very friendly, and the room was enormous, interesting and comfortable. We enjoyed being able to walk into town, and around the ramparts of the city. It’s a pity we had just one night, we would have liked to have stayed longer. Very good breakfast

Superb hotel in a good location. The room was stunning with an open plan shower and separate toilet Extremely clean and comfortable with a great huge comfortable bed The grounds were very scenic with its own pool which we sadly didn’t use as we only strayed one night Great breakfast with a choice of fresh fruits pastries meats breads and even a faculty to make your own boiled eggs. Nice touch The decor in public areas was stunning and this place oozes class and style. It’s France after all Very close to the city walls with goood access to shopping bars and restaurants. Would recommend for sure

Lovely, mid-century style, renovated abbey in charming old centre area of Angouleme. While the hotel is a short 15-minute walk from the train station, we arrived late at night and were advised to advance book a taxi to ensure we had transportation to the hotel. Room was spacious, immaculate, bed comfortable, and well supplied with coffee, tea, and a minibar with wines, juices, and a few snacks. Staff were friendly and spoke perfect English, making it unnecessary for us to butcher the beautiful French language 😉. Our breakfast was delightful with local breads, cheeses, and a nice selection of meats, eggs, juices, and coffees/tea. We will gladly return during our next stop in Angouleme. We highly recommend the Hotel Le Saint Gelais as the best option for a stay hotel in Angouleme.

Nice but strangely quiet

You can see that the hotel was refurbished a few years ago and it’s a nice building in a good location but compared to the pictures online, it looks quite tired. The staff were all very pleasant. The swimming pool was lovely. The room was large and comfortable. We had breakfast, which was basic and probably not worth the €15. Generally the hotel felt like a ghost town. Aside from a few people by the pool and someone on reception, the bar was empty with nobody there to serve, the restaurant was closed apart from breakfast for the duration of our stay. We returned at 9.30pm from a meal out and everything was locked, no staff, no option to get a drink at the bar, just a number to call if there was an emergency. If you are happy doing your own thing then it’s a nice little place but it felt a bit deserted for us.
