We stayed for a couple of nights, having breakfast & dinner twice. After a rather brusque check-in with a middle aged Asian gentleman (the owner?), we made our way to Room 10, a king sized room with an additional bed in a side room. As we had our Jack Russell with us, this may be a pet-friendly room.
The bedroom was beautifully clean, and the beds comfortable. I think the bathroom had not long been fitted, and had a fabulous shower along with all the complimentary soaps/showergels/shampoos that have disappeared from so many hotels these days. A thoughtful touch was the battery night light that came on at night, saving us from being blinded by the brightness of the usual bathroom lighting.
The only thing that marred our sleep was the noisiness of some pump or other that kept going on and off all the time. We eventually got used to the noise so didn’t ask to change rooms.
The pièce de résistance of our stay though was the restaurant staff, especially Stephen & Shubham, who went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent. Unusually, the pub offered a short Indian food menu, alongside the usual pub grub. On our first night we chose that, and were very happy with the dishes we chose.
On Sundays, the Blue Boar offers an all day Sunday Roast, right up until 8pm, so after being out all day it was a pleasure to have that to look forward to.
Both days we chose to have a “Full English” breakfast, but cereal and yoghurt was available too. We recommend it!
