Our stay was a very special traditional ryokan experience. The location right next to the river/waterfall makes for a scenic backdrop, that just elevates the experience. Our room was rather big and we loved the decor. The spas are large and all have an in- and outdoor area. We also booked massages and the private spa and both where very nice. Breakfast is traditional japanese. We went by car and there was parking close to the hotel, but there is also a bus station right in front of the lobby.
My wife, our infant son, and I had an excellent stay here for two nights. The hotel has been thoroughly updates and the rooms are beautiful and comfortable, with all of them having views of the river and forest. The staff were all friendly and accommodating, and went out of their way to make things work with our son. The public baths were in excellent condition and spotlessly clean, and the two footbaths were a nice touch that we used regularly as well. The included breakfasts and dinners were also excellent, and far better than I expected for the very reasonable price we paid for them, using local and seasonal ingredients including wagyu and koshihikari rice. There was also a good selection of local premium sake and other drinks for purchase with the included meals. As a bonus, there were also a variety of beautiful and colourful yukata available for female guests to pick from, and my wife really enjoyed this. My only qualm is the advertised free beer with you visits to the bath - which came in a laughably small cup that warmed up quickly and was not refreshing at all after a hot soak, but it was a great stay otherwise so it doesn't matter. Note that many staff spoke some English, but many did not, and having even a limited knowledge of Japanese made things much easier for us. Most guests were Japanese but everyone was very welcoming to foreign guests.
Had had a great stay in this beautiful hotel. One of our group members had left behind his bag in a remote restaurant prior to his arrival and with the great assistance of the hotel staff, we managed eventually to confirm that the bag had been sent to a police station. The staff, who didnât speak good English , had been very patient in understanding my Japanese of limited proficiency , and had the matter sorted out to our great satisfaction.
The room was tidy apart from some cobwebs in the sealing. The hotel in general had quite a lot of cobwebs and insects here and there on corridors etc. English was mentioned as one of the languages but still it was very difficult to take care of anything in English. Otherwise service was polite. The one thing that really seems wrong to us westerners is the fact that the traditional rooms are said to have 'futons'. These are in fact thin ordinary foldable matresses and uncomfortable to people normally sleeping on beds. We thought of futons as thick matresses filled with hay, so quite sturdy - but no.
We are from Thailand, have made a reservation in advance. And stay on March 13, 2023, amount 1 night, 2 adults, 1 child (10 years old) has already paid via credit card. After going to stay at the hotel, I informed that I book and pay for 2 adults and the hotel charges our son an additional 8,110 yen, but the staff can't communicate in English at all. The staff confirmed that they did not pay. But we have proof of all payments. Employees cannot read and communicate in English at all. Until causing us to pay, otherwise the hotel does not let us check out from the hotel.
