1 Star Hotels in Ko Lanta

Originally a backpacker haven with no concrete roads, no electricity and a few bamboo huts dotted around the beaches, Ko Lanta has since developed into an idyllic holiday destination. The west coast is where all the beautiful beaches are; 90 per cent of Ko Lanta’s accommodation is here.

It is still possible to find one-star budget accommodation on Ko Lanta, but these options are now few and far between. Most hotel owners have upgraded from the traditional fan-cooled wooden huts and now these resorts have mostly concrete bungalows with a choice of air- conditioned or fan rooms.

In the town of Ban Saladan, which is the closest built up area to the ferry port, it is possible to find clean, comfortable guesthouses at low prices with air-conditioning or fan but little else in terms of facilities. Rooms are usually very basic but some do offer free Wi-fi and free bottled water so it’s a good idea to have a good look at what’s on offer before making a booking. Ban Saladan is the busiest location on the island and while it’s probably not the spot to choose if you are looking for the beach, it is the place to go for delicious seafood, restaurants and shopping. Ban Saladan is a great location day or night especially for those who like the hustle and bustle of a busy town.

At Klong Dao Beach there are no one-star options on the beach, but on Klong Dao road, only a short walk from the beach, there are plenty of one-star choices along with a wide selection of shops and amenities. The varied array of accommodation on Long Beach makes it popular with all groups: families, couples, singles and backpackers.

Klong Khong Beach is far less developed than any of the other bays; there are a few shops and restaurants on the road but nowhere near as many as in PhraeAe and Klong Dao. As a result the accommodation is priced substantially lower and the beach tends to attract backpackers, singles and young couples on tight budgets.
