"Overall this hotel provided great value for money. The staff were great, the room was basic but comfortable, and the location was excellent. Welcome cookies were a nice touch!"
"The hotel itself is beautiful and very large, and overall the room and property were clean and well maintained. The staff was also friendly during my stay, which I appreciated.
However, there were a couple of things that made me uncomfortable. One was that the coffee and tea were removed promptly at 6 PM even though there were barely any guests at the hotel at the time. I felt the staff could have made a small exception.
My main concern, though, was security. The property is extremely large, and some areas felt completely isolated and deserted. I noticed that several exterior doors appeared to remain open from the outside, which honestly made me feel unsafe. I raised my concern to the front desk and was told that the doors remain open so guests can come back in. In a hotel of this size, I would expect those doors to remain locked from the outside and require a guest key card for entry. I also looked around for security cameras and did not notice many visible security measures. While the hotel is beautiful, that particular situation affected my sense of safety during the stay."
"The Waitsfield Inn was a unique but pleasant experience. It was clearly an older building that has been remodelled to accomodate modern travellers. Our room had its own bathroom but the bathroom was essentially a converted closet. It was smaller than the bathroom we had on the cruise ship we had been on the week before. It was nice, just a little cramped.
The only sort of downside to our stay, which may have been due to the time of year we were there - early May, the off season (?) - was that we never saw another person the entire time we were there from check-in to check-out. And I'm pretty sure we were also the only guests in the place during the two nights we were there. We never had any face-to-face contact with anyone employed by the property. The sound of someone moving around downstairs and a small backpack on a table near a coffee service area the morning after our first night was as close as we got to contacting anyone in the place during our stay.
I call the lack of personal contact a "downside" only because it was our first time in Vermont and having a local available who can recommend places to see or local eateries is nice to have when one is new to a place. Foretunately, we are pretty good at finding our own way around in new places and Waitsfield VT is not that big.
The aforementioned coffee service area was nice, with a pretty good selection of tea, coffee and hot cocoa to select from.
Overall, a pleasant experience."
