Upon walking into my room, the stench was unbearable. It smelled like dirty water / mold and sweat (BO). I tried to open the windows to air it out but seems like the smell is embedded in the room. Also, the phone went off at 4:00 AM while I was in a deep sleep. It kept erroring out over and over so I unplugged the phone and left a note for the facility to fix it. Other than that, the location was nice and parking made it simple. I liked that I could walk everywhere without fearing for my safety.
The place is was fine my issue is more that the parking was a pain. To find and use. Its a pain to find your away the area.. also the parking price is way over priced. It was $20+ a night to park at a college campus 8+ miles from thr downtown.
so many buildings around the main building. After parking, we had to wander around in the dark with our large suitcases trying to find our room. In the end, we couldn’t find it and had to go back to the check-in area to ask for help. And guess what happened next? The room key cards didn’t work. I almost screamed. We had to go back again to get them reset—and we didn’t even get an apology but attitude lol. The room itself was clean. But I’m sorry, we won’t be staying here again. never
Being at UBC it has everything one needs.
The rooms are well maintained.
Only slight discomfort is the shower is very small.
Everything else is great about this place.
Plus there is public transportation steps away from Gage. Buses every few minutes to downtown Vancouver.
My adult son travelling to a concert on July 14 has autism and struggles a bit with communicating.
The staff who didn't know this were very friendly, helped him fill out the form and when he didn't ask how to get to the rooms, she noticed his hesitation and walked him to the lobby door and gave him directions. Needless to say I (Mom) am very thankful to the staff for unknowingly helping him. He loved the room and had a perfect stay.
Pretty great deal for the price, if you have a reason to stay at UBC (I was here for a concert). Rooms are small but nice, and include a full kitchenette.
If you like staying on a university property with a student vibe, then this would be OK for you. If you wanna stay in an upscale hotel however, it is very far removed from that experience.
Much more affordable than going to a mainstream hotel near Canada place
The only drawback was that I couldn’t see the sign for the check in lobby from the street. I drove around the building several times trying to find it.
Also, the management “assumes” guests know that the pick up drop off parking is for check in parking. That wasn’t clear either.
Other than that, I would definitely stay there again!!! Picture is the view from my room.
