"Room was nice, suitable for a couple if you're happy to sleep in separate beds. 2 king single mattresses with additional bedding in storage compartment for additional people. Shower was great with great water pressure, though no ventilation so it would get very steamy very quickly. Fridge wasn't on when we arrived, had to turn it on ourselves. You get a hair dryer, a kettle, 4 cups and 4 mugs. No utensils and the microwave is in the shared space where the washing machines and dryers are. Inconvenient yet tolerable.
The entire building is made from wood so you can hear every movement, especially from people above/below or next to you. We had issues with the people below us and their children running and jumping around late at night which kept us up, despite me confronting them about it and asking them to keep it down, as well as the property asking them to do the same. Though this isn't specifically related to the property itself, this was definitely the biggest drawback. If it had better acoustic insulation it would have been perfect, though due to this issue, I don't see us staying here again. I suggested that management put signs up to establish a dedicated "quiet time", and charge people who continuously ignore it (yes they were that bad). I'm not one to complain or leave bad reviews, but the noise travel was a major issue for us that I think everyone should be aware of.
Overall, it's very clean and new, and has small shops next door, though a bit far from restaurants. "
"The room was remarkably clean and all amenities were provided. We really appreciated the complimentary beer, water, wines, chocolates, snacks, and juices. The hotel has a warm and cozy feel perfect for relaxing after a long day on the mountain. As many others state, breakfast offers a delicious spread of Japanese and western options. It was a fun way to get a taste of local milks, cheeses, and mochi during our trip. The staff at the hotel is incredibly cordial, helpful, and well-versed in hospitality. I was impressed when they took our bags to our room for us right at check-in. The rooms are larger than we've ever seen in Japan or stateside. The beds were firm but much more comfortable than expected. You won't regret staying here. Looking forward to visiting again next year!"
"Firstly, Takashisan (the manager) is incredibly helpful, friendly, and professional. He speaks limited English, but uses WhatsApp and a translator when needed. He organises bus to/from Tomamu Resort, answers questions, and helps with everything.
White House is a budget accomodation, it is not as fancy as Tomamu Resort. But is well organised, and you can get a bus to/from Tomamu at several times each day for 500Yen each trip. Make sure you arrange these trips in advance with Takachi (eg. on WhatsApp). Reception is often unmanned, and there is no restaurant or bar. But noodles and tea/coffee are available, including microwave, if you need to cook something up. There are good bathroom facilities, and hair dryer, towels, soap, shampoo. There are also washing facilities available (300Yen or so).
White House is warm, but it is an old style wooden construction, and I had a bit of trouble sleeping with people coming an going on the old wooden stairs. Luckily, other guests are mostly Japanese and therefore well behaved (!) (I was the only Australian, thankfully).
If you bring your own cereal / breakfast, you can eat at the front area - there are tables. Otherwise, it is 2600 Yen for a terrific buffet breakfast at Tomamu Resort - get the 7:20am bus from White House to Tower 1.
SUMMARY: Good quality, warm, and friendly alternative, if Tomamu Resort is too expensive for you. "
