Good choice for Te Anau

Alphnorn is on a residential street that also has several other small motels. It is a short walk (using a cut-through) to the lake front and not far to restaurants and shopping, We appreciated having a kitchenette and separate bedroom. The front office was not open during the time we were there, but the keys were left for us and a note on the door gave a phone number to call if needed.

Quite spacious as we had a family unit with single beds in a separate room. Heater worked well as it was cool and we got wet during our visit to Milford Sound. Quiet place.

loved the motel. great lication, great room, goid size with a tiny, but sufficient kitchen, great space for sitting area. since it was off-season, it was self check in, but when I called the number to confirm we were leaving luggage in storage for a few days (while we were tramoing the Milford Track) as agreed ahead of time, the owner answered on the first & only call & took care of it. the room was clean both times we stayed. loved it. only complaint is the laundry room could use a clean. maybe not once a day, but like once every few months maybe. The one washer & dryer both worked great, but that room needs a vaccuum especially the multy-layer of cobwebs all over.

Older motel, dated but clean. Lovely outdoor table to sit in the sun in the garden. Bed was not the best for 2 larger bodies, but everything works. Good value.

Easy use of kitchen and laundry (costs 4 dollars), nice spacy room and ok bathroom. It's possible to walk into town in about 15 min. Don't book through hotels.com though, that site is horrible! Just use the motels own website.

The property is a little dated but it was clean and quiet. Reception is not always staffed however when I rang about leaving my bag because I was arriving early I was advised to leave my bag at the Village Inn. When I returned to check in Teddy offered to drive me to the Alpenhorn Motel, so going over and beyond. At the end of my stay Teddy was extremely helpful and offered to drive me to the bus stop. Thanks a million.

The property is well priced and conveniently located however the room was not adequately cleaned/vacuumed and is very outdated. All dishes and kitchen pans had to be washed before using as they were not clean. Beds not great. The kitchen was however well outfitted. Toilet was very clean and the linens were soft and fresh/clean. Shower door leaked water over the floor and the shower had some mold patches on the floor. There was no staff on site, key was left taped to the door when we arrived at 4:00 p.m. This was the most disappointing accommodation we have yet experienced during our New Zealand trip.

a small yet fine motel complex with complete facilities. After our arrival we had to clean the small kitchen which was well equipped, but this did not detract from our stay. We had a room with good heating as well as a kitchen and a small shower with toilet. We loved the small terrace which was surrounded by rhododendron bushes and had a great view of the mountains. Parking right outside the front door was also no problem. Pay washing machine is available. Alpenhorn was an ideal starting point for us on foot and by car to reach the surrounding natural beauty.

Reception office was closed and no one was in attendance from the moment of arrival to point of departure. All communication / instructions was via notes taped on pieces of paper taped to the office door. Did not see a single motel staff. Room was tidy and clean. Double bed was rather low and on the soft side. Room was clean and tidy. Kitchen tap was leaking. Basically it is a row of self contained units with shingle car parking right outside each unit door. If service is required a mobile phone number is provide to call for assistance.

It was an absolute disgrace. Dirty greasy plates light gave me an electrical zap and didn’t work and the most important part the tv didn’t work. Overall I would not recommend.
